I have got over 50mpg - last year to and from Shropshire meet

I have managed to get the fuel light on at 83 miles.....


Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Similar ..... and I was pushing the bike to the fuel station with 100 on the clock.

perhaps us older falco owners know how how to thrash them properly!

and well done D-R - you managed to get a rusty brown one to do almost as well as the faster black ones....


Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Haha, worst i've had is 22MPG, that was slow riding around town. Multiple cold starts.

I reckon I can get 40mpg out of it with practice.
You'll do even worse on a track day, 15mpg if you know how to wring its bits. :smt005

When I had my Falco, I always got around 10 miles to the litre whether on a long motorway journey or a Sunday blast or touring A and B roads. I don't think I hung about though I didn't bounce it off the limiter either. I alway filled up at 140 to 150 miles and never saw the fuel light. That's better than 45mpg.

The BMW R1200S is even better but it has a smaller tank. On a recent 1000 mile trip to Scotland and back, I was getting over 50 mpg. Top gear is much higher (5K rpm is 90).

I don't know how you could do 22mpg unless you never get out of 2nd :smt002

P.S. Before anyone says, I know it doesn't have a limiter as such, but you know what I mean...

Did you have stock gearing? What gear did you used to cruise in at 80?

About town I'm mostly in 2nd and 3rd. Anything else and the revs are too low.

5th on the motorway, 6th again sees the revs fall too low at 80mph.

No, I have a 15t front sprocket.

I think 80 in top would be around 5k rpm on mine.

Around town I'm generally in 4th, 5th or 6th once up to speed.

i think you need to look at the gearing carl

either drop one at the front or raise 2 or three at the back??

Shouldn't the engine should be doing roughly same amount of work in 5th gear at 5k as it would in 6th gear at 5k with a 15t sprocket.

That being said, a front sprocket is cheap as chips. They're a right bugger to get off though without air tools.

I wonder???? With the fuel cans you have fitted does it have a chip fitted? I would think that if this is the case a chip will make the bike use more fuel? :smt017

And fitting a front sprocket is easy. Air tools are not required.
Allen keys and spanners are all that is needed. You don't even need to remove the chain. :smt002

Carl - I left a message on your answer phone re a spare rear sprocket I have which is 2 tooth over

..... though going up a few teeth on the rear sprocket will probably also cost you the price of a new (longer) chain.
