Blimey been looking at the price of plastics :smt103

Plus of course the quantity you have to buy.

I think to keep it down I'll do a one off then stick some pics up and work out how much I need so that I can keep the price down.

Why not put it to a poll Gio and count how many you need?

Post on AF1 and offer em up to various commercial outlets too.
Sell em to the commercial dudes for twice the cost then your friends on here (and I count myself as one of your bestest ever) can get em fer nowt.

No?

Oh well worth a try I spose :smt002 :smt003

I'm not going to go commercial on them, just make maybe 20 or 30.

Only want to cover the costs as well.

They might be a bit more than a fiver, but having weighed the original red lens and allowing for lets say 50% waste (trimming etc) I think less than a tenner is realistic (including postage)

I found my agitator this evening (stops bubbles forming in glass) so I imagine it'll work with plastic, time will tell.

One of the good things is that nowadays they use rubber moulds and a release agent (like making tyres I imagine) so moulds should be cheaper to make.

Last moulds I made were plaster of paris, bastards when they chipped and they take a few days to cure. Plus of course you can get tiny pin holes in them and they're heavy

Hi Gio,

OK I will settle for a clear one, makes sense cost and all :smt002 Wasn't trying to be checky or nothing :smt003 Just that a clear or smoked lense would make it all worhtwhile and fandabbydozzy....

Hope ur plan comes to fruition for all our sakes :smt007

Cheers,

Warranty yeah rite!

So if we all go for the clear lense option do we have to buy red bulbs (or lamps if you're a pedant).

Don't fink I've seen any of them :smt017

I use these

http://www.speeding.co.uk/cgi-bin/sh000 ... 1521#a1521

I think they look better than the red bulb option as they are sort of invisible. Not the brightest in the world though.

I've tried the LED replacements, but had problems with them flickering although others have used them without any problems. When I was using them a mate following me did comment that he couldn't tell when I was braking. When I had a look I had to agree that there did seem to be little difference between stop and tail, it was a very sunny day though.

And another thing.

Smoked lenses can be got by buying tint spray and spraying the clear lens if you so desire.

Most boy racer type shops will have it, expensive enough though I got a tin for £12, but I've seen them at over £15.
