Thanks fella's it's appreciated. No real news from today other than to see the structures and roles. Pretty savage.I've had a good career and whatever happens to me is just the next chapter. I really feel for the younger people, younger families etc and you try and provide sage advice and support them through the process.

Anyway mustn't grumble there are many more people a lot worse off than me in the world. And people who do jobs that really are a matter of life and death. Off to the pub now then pick up our favourite take-away.

Thanks again.

edit................... forgot to say, got the day off tomorrow and going to Download at Donnington, Thin Lizzy, Alterbridge, Darkness, Pendulum :smt023

Thursday is the day I find out my job, and those of my team. If I'm reading the tea leaves correctly it doesn't look too promising. I'll need to communicate the outcomes to about 15 people individually and there will be some bad news for some, and likely me too.

Yes Dave - hope things are better than you fear - and if you do have to give bad news to anyone, that you find the way to do this that minimises their distress. I'm sure you are a chap with the sensitivity to do it well - but hope for you and those in your team that you don't have to.

hope it works out mate

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Thanks all. I'll let you know. Not asking for sympathy but it just helps to share it with people outside of the normal family/friends network. You now what I mean.
I know it's happened to lots of guys on the forum. Cheers all.

Happened to me twice inside a year at a time when Mike's business was going down the pan as well. When I went home and told him we said, 'oh well we'll lose the house now' - too late to be upset about it.

But we're still in that house! It's amazing what you can do!

Thanks All - been away for a few days but got the news last week. I've kept a job but had to take a down grade. Not ideal but in the current climate I'm fortunate to have had the choice to stay or go. Most of my team have been placed but I did have to deliver bad news to two people. On the whole not as bad as it could have been but still very destressing for those who are facing redundancy.
Thanks for your good wishes and support, it really makes a difference.

It's good to hear it has not turned out quite as bad as you feared, but obviously bad for the two who are going.
I suppose it is good that you can now move on and get on with your life again, even if it is with less money.

On my side it has been a bit iffy as my wife, daughter and myself all work in local Authority type jobs.
On my side, I reckon I am safe now, but we have had to accept a pay freeze with no cost of living or increments for 2 and poss 3 years, (just at a time when inflation is highest for years), plus a 1.5 % pay cut and will soon be doubling our superan. payments, but still in work so good news, when hundreds have lost their jobs at the council one way or another.
The wife's job looks like it will probably be safe for now as all the initial job losses did not include her.
Worst situation is Joanne, my daughter, who works for a body that runs youth centres and other stuff in Sheffield, (used to be council, now a charity?).
She does the payroll and banks money, amongst other things, and asked the current administrator/director last week what she could do as they only have enough money left for two months salaries. Sadly this can only be achieved if they do not pay redundancy to all the staff have have just been made redundant this month.
His reply was that this will have to come from reserves, she reminded him that they spent all that last March, (all the original directors resigned on 31st of March, this new bloke was appointed by Sheffield Council to sort out the mess).
He would like her to stay as long as possible to help sort things out, but couldn't find a reply when she suggested that might mean there would not be enough to pay her salary or redundancy money at the end of this time.
So not looking good!
