Another variant on the Renegade theme with all the benefits and issues of the renegade scheme.

TBH how important the issues are is not a known fact - just some of us don't like certain aspects of the design (but that is probably nit-picking and with no evidence as to whether they have any real effect)

Looks pretty cheap to lash together, so why not give it a go. If you don't like it change it.

I've recently gone from an unsealed system to making a seal to the underside of the tank. TBH I dont think I can tell any different. I only did it foe peace of mind as the air temp here is rarely less than 25 and normally around 30, so I figured the cooler the intake air the better.

I don't think any ram air affects come into play untill license melting speeds are attained and even then I doubt they are significant.

There's a really interesting thread on the otherside which had some good 'Evo' sealed versions, then i saw the above, i guess untill i actually attempt somethng (like i did with the light conversions) you just don't know really waht's involved

Am i right in thinking that the whole airbox unscrews as does the 'air intake bit', would leave the snorkels in place just for the hell of it, do the trumpets come off too, then i take it you create you base, find out where all the screw holes and trumpet holes are then screw everything back on (new plate and trumpets)

The filter covering the trumpets, does that seal to the base or would i have to add some extra sealent or something, i'm thinking around the base??

I'm going to be making a Renestylee for me Falco. I've got a bona fidey? on the Tuono and for me its not about any power/performance gains its purely and simply the noise they make. Fookin incredible. I had the T around Oulton Park yesterday and spent the whole time giggling at the sweet sweet bbbbbbaaaaaaarrrrrrpPppppp. On full berries you can hardly hear the cans. Mint.

Indeed, so to get this straight if i was to do this and not cock it up

1)Remove whole airbox unit
2)cut sheet aluminium to the right shape size
3)cut apropriate holes for screws and trumpet things (could i use the original as template?)
4)screw into place
5)purchase appropriate filter, wouldn't there be aditional need to make the base of the filter and plate air tight or do they screw down tight enough?

Is there anything else i need, i've seen on other versions there's a cone shape filter but not on the above version, is this right??

What would be the aditional advantage of the Rene unit with a seal around it against the Evo style unit as Pete as placed this as his prefered option over a standard Rene unit, are they not doing the same thing only having the filter in a different place?

The Rene style scoops air towards the filter so including that would be good. The airfilter can be fixed in a number of ways. Some like mine have an engine breather filter to. I'll take some pics if you like.

Crikes i'm going all round the houses with this one!!! Looking at some old threads from 2003 onwards, on people trying to come up with various solutions!

From Bill and Pete sounds like a sealed Rene style like below is prob where i'm going...the only prob is knowing how to cut the metal plate under the filter (see pic in thread) to the right shape?...any ideas if i'm not missing the obvious?

http://www.apriliaforum.com/forums/show ... stcount=59

Have found the site, does anyone know which plate to get or just get a blank one cut??

...sorry to keep dragging this on!!!

:smt003 Works out that way sometimes, thanks

Does the filter seal down okay or do you have to give it some extra help (sealant?)

1) i may have got this wrong but if you are using a new custom made plate from scratch the filter will be fine as is

2) if instead you recycle the original base of the airbox you need to create a small base plate for the filter to sit on...not sure if the original base is level all around the area that the filter sits on...does that make sense?

Y' see that's the sort of thing that hasn't come up and is bound to trip me up on a DIY solution!

tbh - would just go for a rene style to start with

THEN decide if you need it sealed or what ever.... I will get round to doing mine at some point but really do not feel it really necessary

re the oil breather - currently it feeds to the bottom of the airbox

you have two options with a renegade solution:

a, reroute the breather back over the front sprocket to act as an occasional oiler (This does not replace a scottoiler or chain maintenence....)

b, buy a car bling oil filter and mount it on the plate - that is what i did :)

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

The TPS sensor does get in the way and i had to cut the lip to get it to fit flat.
I used some high density draught excluder and it has been fine for the past 2 years

Can't remember what the base of the airbox looks like as it was so long ago.

To get my template i smeared some dirty oil on the base of the airbox and pressed some white cardboard onto it. Perfect copy (answer to your pm)

Finally did the deed at the weekend, the dremmeling took a while, went for the AF1 version with the seal around the top of the standard box and retain the K&N filter until i get one to go over the trumpets (if i can be bothered?), made a bodge of joining the two ends up so had to add a second layer of rubber which added to the width and sealing against the tank...was thinking about drilling some holes around the bottom front and placing some filters on the inside to gain some vocal grunt? The upper foam took some shifting, only cost me £12 for the rubber seal, bought two metres but 1 would have been enough

Didn't go out as there's a prob with the clutch so heading back to Griff as it wasn't right after i picked it up for them last week :smt011 Just can't wait now to see if it makes a difference on the road...soon as the clutch problem's sorted!

This isn't mine but it's what i ended up doing
