I'd be surprised if production keeps up with demand once the Tiger 800 gets established on the roads. There are going to be a lot of BMW owners fed up with reliablilty problems who switch to Triumph.

Think you must be mistaken Nooj.
BMW bikes do well in the Ride awards every year because they are so reliable don't they. :smt017
Then again!
Probably it is just that all their owners turn a blind eye because the dealers deal with the problems well!

Don't be fooled into thinking that BMW are the be all and end all of the automotive world.. Far from it. German engineering standards are also dropping on the whole from what I can gather. Brit engineering and design is still second to none, it's just most of it finds it's way abroad. :smt009

After my mate Bob got recovered back from Italy on his 750/4 a very few years ago he decided to get something more reliable for touring so he got a BMW that was rather less aged then the Honda and joined the BMW club for ease of getting spares (hm). He was somewhat surprised to discover that most of the members owned two BMs - so they always had one on the road while the other was in the workshop!
The tragedy of old age is not that one is old, but that one is young.

By far the most reliable bike in my stall is the K100. Ok, it's been off the road now for nearly 5 years, but I've no doubt that when I go to use it next (mid Feb!!) it'll fire up with ease, ride, handle and perform like it did before I was knocked off it. After all, it was stood for 2 years under a tarp in my dads garden before I got my mitts on it! :smt001

That's exactly it, every owner I've spoken to about the issues they've had would all have another BMW for that reason.

But... until now the GS hasn't really had such well thought out competition (Triumph have copied so many GS ideas for the Tiger 800 :smt003 )

It's only the newer Bee-emms that really suffer (especially the GS range), due to demand. Before Charlie and Ewan did their thang on them they were always the oddball choice, now every estate agent and his pedigree dog wants to be seen 'roughing it' on a GS. BM can't keep up the quality AND the quantity, so have gone for quantity, in bikes and in spares (reckon they saw it coming).

And we all know what town Triumph are based in :smt002

I think as well as good bikes their branding and marketing has been spot on, went into a showroom recently and it makes you want to buy one and get into the brand...very clever

I guess we should also point out that although Triumph may be outselling the Japanese manufacturers, this report is based solely on sales in UK ..... I'm just guessing but I expect that Triumph has a long way to go before they are really outselling the "Big-4".

Good luck to them though.

Isn't it somewhere in China

..... though I think they still have a small operation to the north of Coventry.

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Only a few thousand miles out, they have a huge plant in Thailand. Makes their level of build quality even more eyebrow raising, noticeably better then the 'big four'.
