Ear plugs...which ones?

Can anyone recomend some really good earplugs, i'm looking for something more efective than cheap multipack sponge options as they always seem to pop out!

I'm currently getting by using closed end 'stereo' ear buds

These are what I use

Are you putting them in right?
Roll plug up. Use left arm over head to pull up right ear tip and insert. Hold finger on end for a minute till plug expands.
Repeat other side, Right arm to left ear tip. etc, etc.
For best results though only wear once.

yeah found that post don't know whether it was here or AF1, the sponge ones i've used are from chemists so not sure it bike ones are any different but there are vairing options and everyones ear is different!

was wondering if there was any sort of rating guide as to how much sound they can filter out?

I use these, used to use the max but found that for some reason after a couple of hours my right ear got really painful, still get it a bit but its a lot better

The Howard Leight ones I mentioned are the only ones I have used that do not fall out my ears,spread really well and stay put

thanks, now i have a starting point, at least they are cheap enough to try out! was wondering what they use in F1/Moto GP for example??

I think there is a question as to which sound range they cut out as opposed to how much.

You need to look at the SNR figure they quote as to how much the sound level is restricted by. The higher the figure the quieter.

I'm currently using GTmotoplugs, from Halfords. About £5.00 for 25 pairs. SNR 39 - 'highest rating available', or so they claim. If you moisten them slightly with spit, roll them a little, & insert them as per Flying Kiwi's post, they go in easily & don't fall out. They seem quite effective, and are fairly comfortable. If you keep them clean, and aren't too heavy-handed with the rolling, you can get away with using them 2 or even 3 times. But then, I'm from Yorkshire.[/i]

I got a set of custom made jobbies at Donnington years ago.

They fill yer lugoles with goo (and a bit of string to get it out once it sets) then send the mould off. A couple of weeks later they arrived by post.

I've found them very good and even sleep in them at rally's with no problems at all.

Cost a bit though 70 quid IIRC, but last forever.

Also I think you can get do it yourself mouding stuff now quite cheap.

If I come across the info I'll post it.

Similarly to FP, I got a set of custom-molded earplugs. I asked the guy what dB rating they were, and they were in the very high 30s, so pretty damned good.
