First ride out on the Falco today

#1 Post by Wally » Mon Jan 12, 2015 10:52 pm

Well, Just had the first ride out on the falco (even though I have had it since 18th December) Certainly a bit different to what I am used to.

I will have to start working my way thru all the little mods and faults now.

Very suprised how quick it is, good front brake, good handling etc but the big problem I had tonight was hanging on when twisting the throttle as the seat appears to be to long for my arse and as I slide back a few inches on the seat it is hard to hold the throttle off (well that's my excuse for the Vmax stored on the dash)

First jobs will have to be balancing the T/B's and checking the Co etc as it is very hard to ride below 3,000 rpm and then sorting out the side stand.

Must be a right skinny bastards - many here have to be shoehorned onto the saddle......

Do the sidestand first mate

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

They do go well so watch it in the wet etc. Power comes in from the get go and has been known to spit off the odd I4 rider or two, before they realize its not all about max horse power figures.
Don't put off 'till tomorrow what you can enjoy today

Can anybody tell me exactly what the difference is between the standard side stand and the fireblade one?

Does it just stick out more when down? Does it lean over more, is it shorter or what?

If I was to modify the standard stand what would it need?

I have all fabricating facilities so that is not a problem.

[D-Rider Mode]

Use the search function to look for side stand mod.

[/D-Rider Mode]

Plenty of options available. I have modified a few GSX-R K6 stands which work really well, but work commitments and other goings on mean I haven't done any for a while. Really should get back on to that.

Good to hear you're enjoying your Falco experience. :smt002
Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handle bars to the saddle.

I know what you mean about sliding back in the seat, I'm a porky 16 stone and even at a ton on the motorway if I accelerate hard it will slide me back in the seat. I love it!!!!

Agree with the sidestand mod, definitely do it first or you might knock it over doing other jobs.

I have a bubseywoo stand so can't comment on the other types used.

Welcome to the forum by the way.

Do the side stand first, various options, see via search.
It was over a year before I got around to doing mine, but always took care where I parked it as the standard unit is not too strong, is very upright and could actually blow over either way in a strong wind.
Have great fun getting to know the bike, but take care it beomes a habit, I'm still enjoying mine 10 1/2 years later!

The replacement stands change the lean angle and spread the load

The fire blade stand is the easiest / cheapest solution imho

Thanks for the advice, I will keep a lookout for another stand.

Can't wait to go out again but it keeps chucking a load of hailstones down.

Tbh

A brand new stand is around 55 quid

You want the 2005-2006 model

You will only use the leg

I am one of those ( fairly rare )racing snake Falco pilots.
I actually really like the sit up position at low speed, more so like being slammed to the back of the seat as the pace increases, riding changes from on it to in it, yeeehaaaar !
