I await the photos

Try swapping the spacers over....

I also wonder if the right bearing is in...

To be honest I think you are right, I think the carrier bearing may be wrong. The spacer sits too far into the carrier in my opinion.

Take the wheel out and pop the sprocket/carrier off. There should be quite a big spacer on the rear of the carrier too. I don't think it'll make any difference to what you're experiencing if it is missing but it'd be worth checking just in case (I nearly forgot to put mine back in yesterday!)

I got sick of my spacer dropping out, so stuck it to the bearing with a dab of silicone sealant. It doesn't drop out any more... :smt003

Right further examination. You will see from the pics that one of the carrier bearings is screwed completely. The is no spacer behind the carrier just the one in the pic at the front of the carrier.

I have seen a carrier on ebay so may just get that to ensure all is as it should be. My overall opinion is that some people should not be allowed bikes and would you believe this guy has his own auto workshop business!!!!!

That looks horrible - sorry. I can see so many things wrong there it really isn't funny. Let's see...

1. It looks like an inner bearing race has welded itself to the wheel spindle at some point. I'd be looking for a new wheel spindle on eBlag, if I was you.

2. The sprocket carrier bearings should be the 2RS type; i.e 2 Rubber Seals, one on each side (obviously). The inner bearing in your pic looks shot to hell and has no rubber seal.

3. There should be two bearings and both should have sleeves on the face closest to the wheel. I can only see one bearing in your pic, although that may be me mis-reading the pic. This fiche from Ultimate parts shows how the sprocket carrier bearings should look:

https://www.ultimateparts.net/aprilia/c ... EM&i=18436

Note that there are two off parts numbers 23 and 24 in the sprocket carrier. Is yours like that? Frankly, I doubt it.

As it happens I've just done all this stuff on my sprocket carrier, so it's fresh in the memory.

And yep - the correct technical term is "shagged"

I've tracked down another spindle and carrier off fleabay, it can't be any worse than mine. Thanks for everyone's input. I have a sneaky suspicion this will not be the last of my problems.

Thanks again

Just been told the one on ebay is not for sale now, so if you could look I would be grateful.

Got a phone call from a friend of mine to say someone he know is breaking a falco it's an 01 plate with 12k miles. He's sold the engine for £300 and the almost new blue flame exhausts for £100 but the rest is available if anyone is interested, I can let you have his number.
