Seriously, the standard chip is ok BUT - an after market chip can make a great bike better....
Perhaps worth while coming to a meet / gathering and try some of the other bikes with different chips?
Unless mine has unknown to me been nodded with an upgrade chip and that's why I think it doesn't need modification. The falco's a good bike but it's not perfect and there's plenty of places for improvement. But if mine is on the standard chip I don't think that's one of them. Or at least there are better upgrades to consider first.
And I'll happily thrash anyones bike for them

For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of my wife, not everything I may say here will be absolutely true I may on ocassion embellish a little for effect.

It's so long since I rode a standard bike with standard airbox and standard exhaust plus standard chip that I honestly can't remember in detail how good it was .... though I do remember it was not perfect.
Start playing with some of those things and the fuelling (plus ignition map) certainly needs to move in harmony (just like with a carbed bike you would be making adjustments when you changed things that affect the breathing).
My priorities have always been focussed on improving the handling and rideability - suspension, wheels etc were attended to first ... but one of the most significant changes that improved the way that I could interact with the handling was the addition of the Gabro chip - far greater than I anticipated.

I'm sorry - I was a bit narky when I replied before.fatboy wrote:Viking, Im not complaining about the delivery aspect of the SL chip, Im describing it.
I think I may have just about mastered clutch control in about 33 years of riding, thankyou !
Aside from the home-built EFI beast, all my bikes prior to the Falco had carbs. So I don't really have that much to compare with. What may have felt "normal" to me at the time may have been "awful" to someone else.
I did see the big difference between the SL chip and Gabro's one.
It's the V-twin thing. There's just something about it that inline-4s don't have at all, and V-4s don't have enough of.
Chip and board arrived safe and sound this morning. Fitted board to the Falco Fighter and its in and running fine now
will see what it's like in the morning on the way to work. Seems to be running a bit rich on initial impression as i can smell unburnt fuel? (maybe my imagination) Anyway will see what its like over the next few days and if it is running rich then maybe a Gabro chip is in order.
Big Thanks to Viking for coming up with the board

Hurrah!! I was just wondering where it had got to.Twintin wrote:Chip and board arrived safe and sound this morning.
Excellent to hear. With the choke on, it is rather rich and has a bit of a lumpy idle. Once you get past about 4k RPM it all sorts itself out.Twintin wrote:Fitted board to the Falco Fighter and its in and running fine nowwill see what it's like in the morning on the way to work. 5k RPM is where the fun starts.
No worries at all! When I cleaned up my garage, I had no reason why the little voice in my head said "Keep it". I guess we know now!Twintin wrote:Big Thanks to Viking for coming up with the board
