Venturi effect ??????

As I have said many times before, I think all of this stuff about the black ones being faster due to the intakes is bollox.
I think there is virtually no difference between them. The later ones with the smaller openings have a tube inside them that I suspect contributes to a resonance in the intake stream.
Aprilia didn't change the quoted power figures and I believe it was only done to make the intake quieter.
What makes me fairly certain - well I'm one of the very few people that has run both types on my Falco. When I fitted the earlier design, I felt no discernible change in performance but the intake noise was louder.
Now can we stop talking about venturi effect in terms of filling the airbox - it really is not at all relevant.

If there was a search function we'd be able to look it up and stop bothering you.D-Rider wrote:As I have said many times before, I think all of this stuff about the black ones being faster due to the intakes is bollox.
How about big snorkels and a restricter plate with little holes drilled around the outer edge to set up eddy currents?
And where can you get the trumpets that Tim mentioned? They sound cool if not a bit blingy.
Where ever I lay my hat.....
And how on earth are you going to get electrical currents flowing in bits of plastic with holes in? .... and what are you going to do with eddy currents anyway?randomsquid wrote: How about big snorkels and a restricter plate with little holes drilled around the outer edge to set up eddy currents?
I hear that Glen Miller's Big Band aren't making full use of theirsrandomsquid wrote: And where can you get the trumpets that Tim mentioned? They sound cool if not a bit blingy.

surely if it was quieter it means that the flow was smoother and slippioerand well more wooshyD-Rider wrote:...I believe it was only done to make the intake quieter.

For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of my wife, not everything I may say here will be absolutely true I may on ocassion embellish a little for effect.

Its all to do with Pigment..
Smaller wooshy air squishers are just smoke n mirror tricks to confuse people.
think of how a bike strapped down produces more power on a dyno than an unstrapped bike..* well the heavier pigment on the black flakkos has that effect.. it pushes the bike into the ground more.. which means power is up..clearly.. also link in the height above sea level for these lower sitting, heavy pigment bikes.. as obviously being lower also means, as any good dyno whore knows.. that the air is thicker, so the engine will produce more power than a taller lighter pigment (say yellow..) bike would as theyre higher above sea level where the air is thinner... Now, a bike with huge horsepower and a stealthy paintjob.. well thats kinda like a penis extension.. women say size doesnt matter so thats a bit of a love removal machine... love removal machines have two accelerators, and no brakes.. just ask Don Plane who is mates with the guys from Zodiac Mindwarp. So.. two accelerators means twice the acceleration.. Acceleration is linked to being fast.. so doubly fast where Black bikes are concerned..
To summarise.. Heavier Pigment Paint = Faster bike (when compared against a similar model of lighter pigment paint)
unless ridden at mallory.
*allegedly..

Billet blingy bits.
I never mentioned then though..

I think you may be confusing acceleration which is the rate of increase or asomething like that with actual speedalso you are forgetting the inherent drag factor in the less smooth shape of the paint paricles on the stealth black which help to make it invisible hence no one says
"wow theres a good looking bike!"
whereas with the non stealth glossier black these irregular drag factoring particle shapes are obviously smoothed out to reduce the drag factor whilst the mix of colours and balance of overall paint pigment weight keeps those mixed colour bikes at a more even height as opposed to being so low that the compression causes more friction than pure forward motion... Superconducting magnets and little propeller things.D-Rider wrote:And how on earth are you going to get electrical currents flowing in bits of plastic with holes in? .... and what are you going to do with eddy currents anyway?randomsquid wrote: How about big snorkels and a restricter plate with little holes drilled around the outer edge to set up eddy currents?
With eddy currents we get squishy, wooshy, twisty air. Covers all the bases.
I reckon I could make some of those blingy e-trumpets out of an old coke can.

ah now with you saying e-trumpets you gave me an idea if we take the magnets etc that you mentioned and position them closer to the front of the snorkel it would in effect create a virtual blingy coke can thing to guide the air more smoothly... of course due to the power output etc required and the drain on the battery it would probably only work on the smaller sleeker more wooshy snorkels
