Re/ tank capacity.
You'll notice that the hole where you put the petrol is in a recessed plastic plate.
This not only restricts where you can aim the nozzle but as it is recessed it restricts the amount of fuel you can get into the tank.
This is deliberate to ensure an airspace to allow for fuel expansion on a hot day (remember them?).
Some people have removed these plates by dremmeling around the edge opening up the filler hole completely therefore allowing the full capacity of the tank to be used.
This possibly accounts for the different quoted capacities.

and some of us have it still in place but fill above it anyway

I agree it
is possible to squeeze more in with the restrictor in place but it's awkward and time consuming and I don't think you can fill up completely.

You can... It just takes a lot longer - dribble a bit of fuel in, let it "settle", dribble a bit more in... You can cram about another litre or so in there if you wait long enough.
It's the V-twin thing. There's just something about it that inline-4s don't have at all, and V-4s don't have enough of.

Yep.
There will still be a gap though as on the sidestand it leans at an angle and the right of the bike is higher and you can't fill the top of the tank on that side.
If you could, you'd then loose fuel once you put it back on the stand.
I'm sure this will be another cue for Martin to extol the virtues of his FutFut's centre stand ...............................

For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of my wife, not everything I may say here will be absolutely true I may on ocassion embellish a little for effect.
That said when it comes to motorbikes, I like to ride side saddle with a nice frock

Not applicable in this instance. Fut filler cap is off-set from centre - so it's almost at the highest point of the tank when the bike is on its side-stand. But it's still a bugger to fill to maximum capacity without 'splash-back'.

and splash back is a real problem for most fut fut owners - though in their case its nothing to do with their petrol tanks....
Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Didn't think rubber pants leaked?

Well that's what squid told me
I can't believe no one has said the light comes on when the petrol is running out

He did tell me something else useful on this subject .. He said gentlemen of a certain shape rely on splash back to compensate for not being able to see the equipment and let them know when they had finished ... Bit like tracer rounds
