Motorcyclist or biker?

I ride a bike hence a biker.
I doubt anyone on here has ever posted about their 'motorcycle'.

Bicyclists call themselves bikers too. As did the guy in leather out of the Village People.

And I think of myself as a motorcyclist. I think we have different definition of terms. I suspect by my definition Bobby’s be a motorcyclist and by her's I might be a biker.

I was riding bikes, waiving to and helping out other like minded folk, before the "biker" term arose. A term that seemed to be applied to a new bunch hanging round in car parks, out in groups during fair weather and seeming into motorcycles as fashion. Maybe there are other terms or classifications more appropriate to them that I missed out on.

I use the terms bike, motorbike and motorcycle. I'd probably say I ride a motorbike and that I have been motorcycling for more than 40 years. I wouldn't describe myself as a biker but don't usually argue if someone at work say, applies that term to me.

So maybe what we need is a definition of terms and then a poll. Nothing like a little controversy.

TBH I don't care what term people use and I don't have a great affinity for any particular term to describe myself - after all they only describe one aspect of me - although that aspect is one of the more enjoyable aspects.

I spend quite a bit of my time walking from one place to another but have never really been drawn to describe myself as a pedestrian.

Just to digress as we always seem to, but on the subject of "labels".
I'm still pissed off by the thread about Alfa drivers.

I had my last one for more than 6 years up to last February and it shared the garage with the Falco.
Most are owned by real enthusiasts, it does help with older versions!
Also had two others before the last one.
As for this thread, I reckon I am both so does that make me AC/DC.
If it's AC, a Cobra would be nice, cos as you've probably gathered I also like cars, (just like bikes more!), or is it motorcycles.

One of the themes in this thread was stopping to help a fellow biker/motorcyclist. This week, while driving home in my car, I stopped to help a guy who was standing beside his SV650 at the side of the road. It turned out that he had a puncture and was waiting for the local dealer to pick him up. However, he was most grateful that I had stopped, not only because I was the only person to do so but because 3 bikes had ridden past. Clearly, as a rider, he expected other like-minded road users to do stop but was sorely disappointed. I blame the ubiquitous mobile phone; I think people assume that anyone who has had to stop will dial a magic number and all will be OK.
