Anyone had this happen?

#1 Post by Chabby » Sun Jan 29, 2012 6:33 pm

I had a trouble free 2.5k ml trip in Europe last Summer and am contemplating the same this year.

Browsing the AF1 forums I’ve come across a couple of issues which I think I’ll check before the trip (see below).

Anyone on here ever had problems along these lines? It seems to be earlier bikes affected but mine’s a black ’01 so better safe than sorry.

Well, i dont want to say no, because with my luck, it will make it happen tomorrow!

Mine makes a slight noise when the clutch lever is not pulled in. I have always been told that it was a normal noise so havn't paid any attention to it. Mine is also a red one, same year.

However, when i was in the clutch basket last week, there was no evidense of destroyed bolts or other foreign bodies.

The problems with sheered bolts is in the alternator.

Yes, people have had problems but considering the number of Falco owners on the Aprilia Forum, you only hear the bad, never the majority (like me) who have had thousands of miles trouble free motoring.

I wouldn't sweat it - if it happens it happens and you can go through life worrying what COULD happen

Mine 'rumbles' a bit with the clutch out in neutral, same as a few other bikes I've had and nothing to worry about unless it's quite loud/the sound changes.

I have had the second one happen, luckily the flywheel was ok but the bolt heads rattling around ripped the stator to bits.

The chances of it happening are very slim, but it's not a big job to check and may be worth it just to put it out of your mind while riding!

Agree with Dale, mines a black 2001 and has always been a bit noisier with the clutch leaver out in neutral, has done it for about 26K miles whilst I have had it and not changed!

All bikes make a rattling sound with the clutch out and the bike in neutral.

Had it on the VFR800, ZX9R, ZXR750
