The one from splatrat has the code AP8240 in addition to that there is some more numbers 109300. The coil thickness is 11.31mm according to the verniors...

The shock from aladinsane has Ohlins racing around the bottom ring of the shock. The shock code is AP8230 with additional numbers of 106730...
The spring is 12.43 mm. But the spring has numbers 1093-54/140359 written on one of the coils.

Both springs have identical coils which is six/seven coils.
That is all the information i can find on both shocks :smt003
It would seem the racing shock is not just a european item.
I was scanning through ebay and found an ohlins with falco linkages...

This has to be a mille r from the same vintage has the one pete sold me.
Also notice the writing on the bottom of the shock aluminium casting, the writing is to small to see on the picture...
But the shock pete sold me also has the same writing which was ohlins racing. Finally it is an ohlins AP8230 sooooo

Any thoughts mango?

Very few milles - especially r models went out of Europe in the first. Year of production - hence the American model years are later than ours

( some may have got over.... But rare I think)

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

It was'nt a case of proving you wrong pete.
I was hoping that this would open up a chance to for more forum members to perhaps get a chance of one of these shocks....
BUT the prices of the american shocks well....... :smt104

Here's the early history of what Milles and Mille-Rs went to USA:

So if we assume it was only the 1999 model r's that had the ohlins on standard linkages... They did not end up in the USA.... Officially :)

.... then that would be a very rash assumption .......

2000 model Mille / Mille-R suspension - with Ohlins for the Mille-R:
http://www.ultimateparts.net/aprilia/c. ... EM&i=18274
..... note the part number of the linkage triangles: AP8135916

Compare that with the linkage triangles of the Falco: AP8135916
http://www.ultimateparts.net/aprilia/c. ... EM&i=18410

.... that'll be the same then :smt002

It's the spring code/rate that gives it away. The 54/140 code tells you that it's a 140Nm spring, as fitted to blue-spring Sachs shocks. The fact that it's being sold with Falco-style linkages reinforces the proof. It's also being sold with a 160Nm spring, but that's only cos the current owner is a lard-arse Yank and needs a heavyweight spring...

I think we can conclude that AP8230 and AP8240 shocks are very early Mille shocks using he same linkages as the Falco.

Ah right

So production year wise, the Mille r was produced with an ohlins on standard linkages from 1998 to 2000

Mea culpa - I now see !

The AP8240 that i have graham does not have the falco linkages, the triagles and dog bone are simular to....
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/APRILIA-RSV10 ... 2eb9ac8174

If not identical :smt017
I might drop the AP8240 out of my mercury and measure the hole centres if that will help.
I could Email the ebay company to measure the tringle and dog bones to see if the later linkages will fit :smt002
Has i say the simularities are close if not identical

Are you sure that the linkages you have are exactly like the eBay ones you posted? Because they are for the 2004 onwards RSV Mille and post 2006 Tuono. I think we're going to have to develop some shorthand, and this is what I propose:

Gen 1 Mille - some examples have Ohlins shock, triangles and dogbone that is entirely interchangeable with Falco (AP8230, I suspect). Production years 1998-2000
Gen 2 Mille - changes to shock and spring to allow for different triangles and dogbone, bit if shock, triangles and dogbone are used as amatched set, works perfectly well on Falco. Production Years 2001 - 2003. also Tuono 2003 - 2005. Ohlins shock code AP8240 (?))
Gen 3 Mille - 2004 onwards (plus Tuono 2006 onwards). Shock further modified, shorter eye to eye length and triangles of suspect construction. Not recommended for Falco.

How's that?

It would be very helpful if you could measure the eye to eye length on your AP8240, Blinkey. I'm assuming yours has the ride-height adjuster, so as long as the overall length is between 320mm and 326mm (from memory) it's a Gen2. Probably. Post up the spring code, as well if it's visible.

Well I asked AF1 a general question details below

Dogbone complete
http://www.af1racing.com/store/Scripts/ ... duct=12578

link plates, order x 2
http://www.af1racing.com/store/Scripts/ ... oduct=7413

Thanks

Basically I I have an 02 Mille Ohlins to fit to my Falco and would like the linkages and dogbone to do that. If that helps clarify Thanks

Any of the 01-03 Mille an 02-05 Tuono stuff would work on a 2002 Mille

Also the base number I gave for mine seems to work across more than one model haven't traced the top number yet which I suspect makes the difference between the models

Ok great do they sell them as a part?
For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of my wife, not everything I may say here will be absolutely true I may on ocassion embellish a little for effect.
That said when it comes to motorbikes, I like to ride side saddle with a nice frock
