Aren't we forgetting the incredible speedo accuracy of these Aprilias?Aladinsaneuk wrote:You can get an indicated 160 on the clocks with standard gearing - though I think the speedo error would likely show a real speed of 150
I think most of us set our revs warning light at about 10,000 or 10,250.
Rev limiter is about 11k but Aprilia tells you that you shouldn't rev above 10,500 when fully run in.
If you are not revving above 6k you've yet to discover the rush above those revs .......
Welcome BTW

I did compute for that Andy - iirc there was a 5mph error at 110 and 6mph at 120... So about 151 at indicated 160?
(private road with satnav over 1 to 2mile bursts for enquiring minds)

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...
Well based on those figures the maths will actually work out closer to an actual 153 at an indicated 160 .... but not a million miles (per hour) awayAladinsaneuk wrote:I did compute for that Andy - iirc there was a 5mph error at 110 and 6mph at 120... So about 151 at indicated 160?

I guess we'll all get a bit of variation from those numbers depending on the tyres we're running

And bike colour.... Swing arm fitted.... Padded upholstery of rider....
Them skinny buggers are slower - no weight to keep the traction going through the back wheel......

One of the previous owners has written down the history of changes and tyres to the bike, one of the first things mentioned is a 15 tooth front, but since then the sprockets have been changed so I will check.
Also mentions a Maxton rear shock as a change.
Tyre history seems to indicate that they last about 6000 miles per wheel.
Got a Metzeller on the rear and a Michellin pilot at the front at present.

DavShill said that the "Firestorm" stand is the one to go for.
By dumb luck I have found a Firestorm stand on e-bay so what I need to know now is how to do it, the nuts and bolt part of it is no problem, the switch connections is what I need to know, has anyone done this and if so are there any instructions or info on this swap.
cheers in advance
Tony

you only swop the leg over - not the mounting plate.... support bike on paddock stand, take old stand and bracket off - before that, loosen the bolts holding the leg to the bracket - otherwise its a bitch!
swop legs over and refit - once fitted adjust kick down lever with a hammer to fit and not foul exhaust
I used this stand for a fair while :)

Alad is right you only need to swop the actual leg. That's easy enough to do. The swith is straight plug n play. The only minor mod is that the pin that actualtes the side stand cut-out/light is located in the wrong place so if you want it to work you'll have to carefully drill a new hole - again an easy job.
