The requirement to report the crash applies to any crash (injury or damage only) where the law has not been complied with.BikerGran wrote:TC will correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the only time there was a requirement to report within 24 hours - or to report at all - was if someone was injured?
The only difference is in injury crashes where there is also a requirement to produce insurance details to any person with reasonable grounds to require those details. There is no requirement to produce insurance in a damage only crash.
I'm happy to (guardedly) report that things seem to be taking a turn for the better.
Today I phoned my insurers - the ones I chose because they gave the cheapest quote (which, incidentally, they did for all our cars).
They asked me whether I was ringing to claim - to which I replied that I wasn't but was phoning to report an accident for which a claim should be made against the 3rd party - but if there is a problem I'd fix it up myself rather than loose my NCD.
Anyway I went all through the details and Rachel, the nice lady on the other end of the line then told me that as it was such a clear case and we had the 3rd party's registration, they would proceed anyway, no excess would apply and my NCD will not be affected. Then she went on to ask if I would like her to organise the repair - which will be guaranteed for 3 years. Yes please!
Within about 15 mins of finishing the call, the repairers rang. They will collect my car next Wednesday and leave me a courtesy car until it's fixed.
The proof of the pudding will be when it's all completed and with no problems .... but so far it's a big "Thumbs Up" for Tesco insurance.

Yes - I will be keeping an eye on it - I have heard that completely "no fault" accidents can still deem you to be a greater risk .... but I guess all I could do was to choose between hitting the ambulance and sitting still as a target for dozy drivers. Not much I could do to avoid it.paddyz1 wrote:Good news but please report back when your renewal is up.

You're right - I fell foul of this when someone drove straight through a give way into my wife's car.
The case was settled as 100% the other driver's fault but when my insurance was due for renewal a few months later, my premium went up as my wife was a named driver, had been involved in an accident and therefore deemed to be a greater risk.
I hope there's a special corner of hell reserved for insurance company owners

Good news bud. I can't ever work out how some insurers can put the no fault driver as a higher risk. I got hit in the rear of the car last year by my mates transit. His fault, phoned his insurance, and we got mine repaired in a couple of weeks. Told my insurance company, and they recorded it. Renewed it this year and the premium went down, but I would say 80% of the companies that quoted me for renewal hiked it because someone else hit me!
May have to give tesco a ring next year.

I have 2 cars a 206 estate and a 406 estate. The 406 came up for renewell at 250quid. the 206 a couple of days later was reversed into in the doctors car park, and sally my wife was not even in the car. The lady who hit my car admitted it was her fault and all went through smoothly.
When my renewell came through i had 3 weeks to re insure which in that time the 206 was repaired.
Now the fun began, i rang up to reinsure the 406 and it went up to 330quid , I use the same broker. I asked why and they said that sally had been involved in an accident, to which i asked when. They refered to the doctors car park.
Now normally i am quite calm but this really wound me up.
I asked them to explain why if sally was not in the car then how can she be involved in an accident.
They said that is how insurance works. So i said why do i pay protected no claims bonus on both cars if i am going to be loaded anyway, to which i was told i would not loose my no claims
. But to me it was has good has.
With this broker i have house and contents insurance, 2 bikes and 2 cars, around about £1500 a year i pay. also i had been qouted with another broker on the 406 250 quid and i told them what had happened to the 206, which i told my broker, Then i got the thumb screws out and told them that i would take all my policys has they came up to another broker
. The kind lady had a chat with her "supervisor" and was promptly told i could have it at 250quid.
. I agreed to pay but then said that it was not the insurance companys doing but the broker and it would not be forgot about, and that i really was displeased with their dishonesty
Funny enough when my insurance comes up and things are a bit tight they let me pay over 3 months with no charges so i have forgiven them, but not forgotten
