If you can bear the publicity, perhaps get your MP and local media involved; the government is taking quite a pounding over NHS performance and reforms at present - a little more fat to the fire might help get things moving. In your unenviable situation, it would be no holds barred for me.
However it's achieved, I hope you two get the action you need ASAP.
My best wishes and prayers for you

Some Better News
Yesterday I had a reply from the doctor in Birmingham to whom we had been referred and that I had emailed. You could tell it was a genuine reply and he had tried to sort something out for us but to no avail. He did let us know that another Birmingham hospital does this procedure and we could try them.
We contacted our Lung Nurse about this.
This morning we spoke to our Lung Nurse again and she told us that the other Birmingham hospital could fit us in on 22nd - a bit better but not much. We also asked her about the other centres we'd found and she agreed to contact Leicester for us. She also suggested we contact our GP in case they could help. We rang the surgery and they told us they couldn't give us an appointment 'till Monday !!! - I rang back later and managed to get one this afternoon.
While we were at the GPs we had a phone call from the Dr that I'd emailed in Birmingham. He'd been able to sort out a new slot for us on 16th (think this is a special slot he's arranged). What's more, he knows the team we are with in Coventry and will do his utmost to get the results to them for their weekly meeting the same week. TBH it's unlikely that an even earlier appointment somewhere else would save us time over all.
This should save us a full 3 weeks. That is much better and taking things a step at a time, it's been a good day.
Of course what really matters are the results of the tests and treatment but we are somewhat closer to them than we were.
Also, the GP has signed me off work due to my injuries until the same day that Joy has her procedure in Birmingham. Normally I'd be racing to get back early but this time I'll concentrate on getting properly fit to support Joy the best I can.
Thanks to all for your continued concern, good wishes and prayers - I'm sure you'll also be glad to hear today's news.

Could be better but I guess it's real progress, at least you have a date within the forseeable future. And yes, you need to take as much time off work as it takes and at least you have an unassailable reason for doing so.
We're all thinking of you both and praying for you and we will be here for you any time - no more remarks about Getting back to bike threads - a forum is a family - specially this one - and we care about family members even if we haven't met them.

The tragedy of old age is not that one is old, but that one is young.
Thats good news indeed! I'll just echo what Bobbi said about continuing to think and pray for you both. Some may consider it a bit 'gay', but the site definately got me thru some shitty times and any way to repay that help, consider it done. Apart from winning lottery numbers. i didnt manage to get thru to that helpline.
Prayers will continue mate.

Crumbs - just realised this is rather out of date.
Yesterday we were contacted by the Dr in Birmingham to tell us that he had been informed that he is not allowed to do the procedure on Joy on the 16th.
It seems that she is the wrong gender ..... honestly!
Cutting a long and concerning story short, it appears that the Government has issued some guidelines that male and female patients should not share a recovery area and consequently the people that manage the facility have decreed that they can only have either men or women on any day. So, if you happen to be the wrong sex for the next date, you cannot be attended to in a timely manner.
It seems that the powers that be are not so convinced of the imperative of this as they will allow "wrong sex" emergencies. The doctor feels that clinically Joy is an emergency but she does not qualify as an emergency under the rules that the powers that be have put in place.
It would seem that petty concerns over people's sensibilities are being put ahead of clinical imperative.
You might have thought that the clinical needs would have dominated and mere guidelines delayed in implementation until separate male and female recovery areas could be provided .... but that would be far too sensible.
Anyway .... we were faced with the whole thing being delayed until 31st Aug.
Better news today. A few days ago we had asked our medical team to consider other centres that we had found on the internet that do this procedure. The good news is that Joy is now booked in at Leicester for next Wednesday (10th).
Let's hope nothing stops this one ..... and that it is a success .... and the results bring some reasonably good news.

All I can say is that I've got my fingers crossed for this one!
I just hope all goes well next Wednesday.
Best wishes to both of you.
When my wife had her problem more than ten tears ago, we were both fearing the worst with a massive cyst like she had, but we stayed as positive as we could and now she is completely clear.
Hope you get a good result.

When our mum was bad last year I had to get politely persistent at several layers of strangeness before something sensible happened.

Hope this one doesn't get cancelled, put off, or whatever! If it does, it's time to go to the papers - or at least threaten to do so. And hope the diagnosis turns out better than you expect.
