Regulator/Rectifier..

#1 Post by GregD-UK » Wed Jul 06, 2011 4:12 pm

Hi all,

Got this Regulator/Rectifier from a guy in the US of A. Was wondering about the wiring part. On other bikes just simply wire direct to the battery and by-pass the OEM wiring harness. Can I do this with my new shiney, powerful one. Or do I have to wire in the OEM harness as the other mod's on this?

When I did this (with Electrex reg/rect) on the Futura (Falco not that different, except Fut alternator has slightly higher output?), I simply cut out the brown & white connectors, soldered the wires together, & covered the joins with heat-shrink. Been fine for the last 2 years.

Usual advice for this mod (at least as far as Futs are concerned) is to either upgrade the reg/rect, or upgrade the wiring from alternator to battery. But not both - or you'll overcook the battery.

Not claiming any special insight on this issue - I just researched it when I did this mod.

Bound to be more info on AF1, if not on here

Hi all,

Thanks MartDude, I was hoping any electrical guy's on here could be more specific on the matter. Here's hoping a "sparky" comes along before the w/end :smt002
