sprag packed up
... ad I said in my 'fix or replace' thread, I knew it was just a matter of time ... decisions, decisions...

found this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/APRILIA-STARTER-S ... RY-/320705 - any thoughts? Can't seem to find the straight-swap Ducati one for sale 2nd hand.
FYI noisy starts for two weeks, then when it 'went', was anticlimactic - clutch in, pressed starter, and got kinda a quiet buzzing but no crank. Anyone whose went in a similar manner need to buy anything other than the above(ish) part for the repair? Thinking of giving the job to my geriatric local spanner monkey with the blow-by-blow description on AF1 (Nooj?), and he bitches and moans if faced with anything unforseen (still, love him - he's put up with doing services for me for 6 years).
....still want a newer, prettier one.... you know, the black framed ones... with the shock-mod .... and those cool looking aprilia carbon cans ... and maybe a black powder coated mille swing arm

dont buy a second hand sprag
cost it up being repaired by a decent spanner man - and cost up the value of your bike.....
then cost up getting done to it what you want - add that all up and compare it to the cost of a new steed....

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...
Eh? What? It wasn't me! I didn't do anything!Thinking of giving the job to my geriatric local spanner monkey with the blow-by-blow description on AF1 (Nooj?)

because the chances are that the sprag may well have damaged other bits around it....
also - if you cannot do the job yourself, it would be a few hours labour - iirc they normally run from 350 to 500 to get sorted by a spanner monkey....
and, hoping not to cause offence, this particular falco needs a bit of tlc and other bits sorting.....

Small bits in the wrong places can do nasty damage but plenty of sprags have been repaired and replaced without adverse effects. Until the cover is pulled off of it, we don't even know whether there has been any colateral damage.

Not a difficult fix really if you're half a spanner fiend.
Done mine twice and another for somenone else on an early mille.
Hardest thing is getting the flywheel off. It will need heat. I bastardised my fly wheel puller to suit this.
Check AF1 forum for replacement sprag. KTM sprag exactly the same and only about £60 if I remember.
Need any help then let me know. PM me or we can chat over the phone.
FFS dinnae be stuck.
