Moved from Kit section : Tyres -How about a sticky thread

#1 Post by Fausto » Sun Mar 18, 2007 1:39 pm

Ooh, unintended pun there........ but anyway....

There are always questions about tyres on this and other sites. Mostly they boil down to asking for recommendations as to what brand/type.

So, howabout we have a sticky thread/topic for members reviews on the tyres they are using. Not just opinions or even heresay but actual use.

I am thinking that as members replace their tyres they give a review of the one/pair they just took off so we can have mileages and characteristics and - most revealing of all - whether they put the same back on.

If we can keep it restricted to just actual review info and avoid derails it could build up to be a useful reference source.

Well that's my thought anyway. Whad'ya think?

I started a thread last month about tyres and have decided to fit a BT021 on the rear.
These only came out last month so no milage yet, but will keep updating as to wear and grip characteristics.

Seeing as I don't ride as much as I used to, I'll try Pirelli Corsa's on the new bike when I need 'em as for what version I'll ask the experts.

Cool Idea, however there's a whole lot of pain with the varying styles of bike, size of bike, engine config of bike, use of bike.. I could easily open up a whole new forum just to be used as a reference area on the subject!! I dont know that we'd want that tho'

Maybe we need 4 threads:

Tyres for Cruisers and Tourers (All configs)
Tyres for Streetbike (V Twin)
Tyres for Streetbike (Inline)
Tyres for Trackbikes (Trackday and Race rubber)

If so, if someone wishes to pick up a thread apiece and create it, I or one of the Mods will sticky it.

I would say to put them in this forum (Bike Kit) tho' as opposed to others..

A sticky tyre post - mmm good idea.

Seen many questions on the old site about what boots to put on etc etc.

But I do think it could become a large post once peeps start to contribute
to it. Would that prove problematic regards storage space? (prob not!).

If I had the money to burn, I'd wear nothing but BT012SS, I absolutely loved em :smt007 and stuck to the tarmac in piddling down rain like glue. They didn't last very long mind, but what a tyre. Turned in well and allowed great lean angles in all conditions, very confidence inspiring.

It wouldnt be problematic to host it, no.

it'd possibly turn into a pointless waste of time though. People left right and centre extolling the virtues of being shod in macadam XXR turbos, etc only for those who thought 'ace! i'll try em' to find out the guy rode a yamaha virago, yet the ZXRR they put the tyres on..well.. let's not go there, eh?

Anyways.. Fausto! it's your call. Go forth and increase the number of threads about tyres on the internet! :smt002

Much as I like taking about the rubber we fit to our bikes, what suits one will never suit another.

Its like I've lost all faith in Bridgestone yet rate Pirelli, well I know people who are the other way round, its all down to personal preference.

BTWI like Michelin, but ffs they are frogs, so they are shit :smt003 :smt005

Having read your points and thought a bit, (don't do much of that after work),
I think Gio and Kwackers are right. Especially
what suits one will never suit another.
, holds true as each has their own riding style.

But, hey, ya never know, someone may find bits of useful info to help them make a decision.

Me personally, I like to try most tyres out and make my own decisions on whether I will buy them again (Michelin - not even in the equations thanks).

Used Bridgstone 56/010/020/012SS; Dunlop 207, 207RR, 208 (Current);
Metzler Sportec M1's; Pirelli Diablo's and Bike came with Pilot Sports which I chucked as soon as I could - uurrgghh.

Right. I'll start 4 threads off. Lets see if people can shove their own details in the relevant section. It may work..may not.. lets suck it n see. :smt003

Ive moved this thread as the Kit section is primarily a reviews area, not a 'general discussion' kinda place The thread served it's purpose and has now been allowed to roam free :smt005 Spreading the tale of tyres and of stickified threads all around the Site. :smt003
