Tyres... age old question with a twist!

#1 Post by rick » Thu May 12, 2011 8:04 pm

Currently on my second set of Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsas... but they aint going to last much longer (2 rears and 1 front in 5k miles!).

So I'm looking, unsuprisingly, for something a little more durable and also with good wet weather grip.

Any ideas?

I'm keen to sort this out here, and maybe buy two rears and one front, prior to shipping the bike to NZ in 6 weeks or so!

Dunlop SportSmarts get my vote.

Loads of grip in the dry, good grip and feel in the wet, and I've done about 1k miles on the rear with little visible wear.

Avon viper sports are the dogs for grip although you can knacker them quick if you want so would go for the Avon ST's they offer great grip when warmed up and also good mileage and good in the wet .....hard in the middle soft of the outside ..............isn't that an Armadillo..? :smt003 Cheap as well .....

And no i'm not getting money from Avon
deepest southwest falco flyer ..............

Black and Bronze , c'mon you know they're the fastest :-)

thanks for all the info guys...

i'm really tempted with the avon storm 2 ultras... can get 2 rears and a front for 270 which, fitted by myself, is good value i think. i've ridden my mates fazer 1000 with them fitted and they feel good... so much frigging tread its unbelievable (at least compared to my pirelli drc!)

If you want to stick with Pirelli you could do worse than Diablo Strada's. Had mine on for over 1000 miles including a TD and they're still good.
I'm right 98% of the time so why worry about the other 3%?

Yes I got great mileage out of Stradas when I used to ride them. That said, having moved to Rossos and now Rosso Corsas, I'd only consider going back to Stradas for winter work or touring.

For me I would go for the latest dual compound sports touring stuff, which are also good on grip these days and great in the wet.
Two for me would be Bridgstone BT 023 or Dunlop Roadsmart
I have BT 023 on the Falco and Roadsmart on the 9R, and both these tyres get very high ratings in tests by people like Bike magazine.

Debz has Storm 2 Ultras on the Fazer, 16,000 miles on the rear and it's still usable, only slightly squaring off, unbelievable performance!!!

She says they're as good in the wet as they are in the dry and don't go off as they age like the 020GG's used to.
