The laser-ignition system, although highly promising, is not yet being installed into actual automobiles made in a factory. Taira's team is, however, working with a large spark-plug company and with DENSO Corporation, a member of the Toyota Group.

Dunno but I reckon Andy has been testing them in his Falco

When I started reading the article, I expected we'd be involved in this :smt003

.... and no Tim - getting hold of standard parts from the company is a nightmare - let alone experimental stuff (other than the stuff I'm working on) - particularly that will require a completely different ignition system ....

..... would be nice though .....

I hear kawasaki are working on a new design of stick coil that doesn't weld itself to the heads every few thousand miles. Mutter.

What does the "Z" stand for in this new device Dale?

Do the other letters have the same meaning as they do with a laser or is it a completely different device?

Star Wars uses Lazers...or was that Phazers.. or was that Star Trek..?

See, I always thought lasers and lazers went to infinity and beyond, which is why they cant make a Lightsabre 'for real'

I dont 'get' how they can have a powerful laser that is powerful enough to ignite fuel/air mix, but doesnt burn a hole in the top of the Piston..?

We used to have a device at work with a laser pointer attached to it. Right next to the laser out hole was a sign in very small writing. You had to get right up close to read it. It said do not stare into laser...

OK ..... but we know what the acronym LASER stands for so what about these with a "Z" in the middle?

Beams of laser light can be focussed ..... if you are ever contemplating laser eye surgery, be very glad they can ....
