That's what I love about this site, it's varied.
You'd never get this sort of thread on any other sites I've been on. :smt005

Just boring stuff about bikes and occasional politics. :smt009

Agreed, Howard. And it's very supportive. Even the piss-taking has a warmth to it you don't get elsewhere

Done and dusted

Thanks to all for your support and forbearance.

My main concern proved groundless - made it to the hospital with dignity, personal hygiene and car upholstery unblemished. The preparation wasn't quite as bad as I feared - no worse than the effects of food poisoning. Perhaps Klean Prep isn't as violent as Picolax. Doesn't taste very pleasant, though.

On entering the endoscopy unit, I was somewhat perturbed to see a large sign at one end of the mini-ward, reading 'Discharge Area' - a bit public for that, I thought.

The procedure wasn't as traumatic as I expected, either - though I suspect that may have been, at least in part, due to the IV sedation and pain relief; no more painful than my last sigmoidoscopy, & the effects of the compressed air weren't as pronounced either - bit of a disappointment in a way - the post-procedural farting, though lengthy, was nowhere near as spectacular as on the previous occasion.

I wasn't impressed by the recovery area being mixed-sex; I'm sure some patients, particularly those of more advanced years, would find that distressing. It also got me into a bit of bother - whilst lolling on my couch, in my hospital frock, I casually rearranged myself into a more comfortable position, drawing my knees up, and in the process let my bollocks flop into public view; when noticed, this caused a flurry of nursely activity, with curtains being drawn, an extra sheet draped over me, and stern tuttings given.

The chap in the next bay, about my age, seemed a little distressed and embarrassed by his experience, so I thought I'd try to cheer him up - I complimented him on a lengthy and particularly sonorous fart. Didn't seem to help, though.

Just need to read my leaflet on diverticulosis & wait for the result of the biopsy (not overly worried about the latter - no really nasty symptoms)

I celebrated the ending of my 24 hour fast with a sizeable KFC; probably not the best choice, but it was amongst the most satisfying meals I've ever had!

Thanks again.

glad it went well mate

I know when i had picolax it was... interesting.....

and i have sworn blind that certain former bosses of mine are getting a picolax laced drink off me in the future....

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Glad it wasn't too bad.

I believe a few drops of phenolphthalein have a similar effect, and it's easier to administer
