Check Your Sprocket Nuts / Bolt

#1 Post by D-Rider » Wed Oct 28, 2009 10:05 pm

Just spotted this posted up by Griff on the Club Aprilia site - Falcos, Tuonos, Milles ..... worth a precautionary check .... in fact, worth a check everyone .....
Griff (Aprilia Performance) on Club Aprilia Site wrote:hello all!!

recently ive noticed a wierd trend of loose sprocket nuts, if you get a few minutes please just grab hold of a 17mm spanner and check there tight on your bikes.......
if you find a loose one then its wheel out im afraid , remove the sprocket carrier from the wheel and torque the nuts to 50nm..

the damage that is inflicted on the swingarm if the nuts come loose is pretty cack!!

also a couple of times of late as well the screws that hold the throttle plates into the throttle bodies , whip the airbox lid off and have a nose inside the bodies you'll see two screws per plate, just give em a pinch!!

please im not trying to scare people but a little lookey see might help someone!!

Cheers
Griff
.... and while you are in the area, check the bolt that holds the primary sprocket (the front one). We've found a couple of these have come undone and made a bit of a mess ........

Had my rear wheel out last week and all the sprocket nuts were loose. I changed the sprocket about 500 miles ago so I blame myself. But a timely reminder to check them regularly.

And if you've got a Ducati rear wheel conversion... dont watch the WSB replay. :smt003

ROFL -- though that wasn't a loose nut - apparently the wheel shattered.
