Plenty of twisty roads where I used to live and I knew them better than the back of my hand - the strokers couldn't live with a bike that handled.Dusty wrote:D-Rider, I can only assume that you were following the 250 as a 400/4 wouldn't get past the 400S3 so easily! That MV is sweet! I've never seen that model in the flesh. I wish I had a huge garage and a bank balance to match!

Ah, I thought you were talking about straight line performance. But, you are absolutely correct, DR. The 400/4 was a peach of a bike and I desperately wanted one but my impecuniosity prevented that and by the time I could afford one I wanted something more powerful, especially after riding its big brother, the 750F1. However, I didn't buy that either. In fact, the only Japanese bikes I had were Kawasakis. Happy days; bendy frames, nylon Japanese tyres that were lethal in the wet and disc brakes that needed 5 seconds application to dry out before offering any retardation! I suppose we can't complain; Suzuki (and others?) did have a sticker on the fork leg warning us that the brakes didn't work!

Nice we got back on thread again, you know I like to talk about old bikes, (being an old B***ard).
Talking on here and looking at the new Norton Cafe Racer SP in MCN (sorry Andy!), got me thinking of the Paul Dunstall 650SS Cafe Racer I had in the late 60s.
It looked very much like this -

Unlike all the bikes before which had been converted by me, this one was already done and bought off a "ex" friends parents with some crash damage.
Love to ride one of these again now.
Sorry, but it is always nice to talk about old bikes, especially when you are not getting out very much on the current ones!

I had forgotten about that sticker until you mentioned it!Dusty wrote:Ah, I thought you were talking about straight line performance. But, you are absolutely correct, DR. Nice touch, gave you something to read, whilst trying to bend the forks back straight having just gone through a hedge.
The joy of old bikes!
