Bargain Tuono or stay away

#1 Post by MDKsmiffy » Thu Jan 20, 2011 4:38 pm

Hi all,
been looking for a Tuono or Falco for my next bike. Got gazumped on a nice Falco yesterday and there's not much else about so spread the net to include Tuonos again.
Found a nice looking 04 model that has been classed a Cat C. I am very wary of the Cat C but decided to phone the guy up and have a chat.
The bike was stolen and the insurance company paid out and then it was recovered. The one previous owner got the bike shop to recover it and the only damage was the ignition lock. The owner told his insurance company it had been recovered and where it was. They eventually contacted the shop and when presented with the bill for recovery and storage asked them to make an offer to keep it.
The bike has had a new ignition and no other repairs needed. It has Akro cans fitted, full service history at the shop that recovered and 12 month MOT just put on.
He said he'll let it go for £2500 but i reckon i can get it for £2350. It is a fair distance but he says if i pay a deposit and go see it and don't want it he'll refund the deposit in full no probs.

is a good bike

get some insurance quotes firt - and do an hpi check
and take your time and wait for a falco :)

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Do you trust a stranger with a deposit on a bike? By all means put a returnable deposit on it if you take it for a test ride (and get a receipt for your cash), but I wouldn't put any money down just to stop him selling it to someone else.

The RiDE article will have raised demand - when Falcos are featured in the press it all hots up for a while .... things will return to normality before too long - once they've all forgotten again what a great bike it is.

there's still the red Falco on Ebay. The Tuono looked a reasonable bargain though.
Guess i'll have to keep looking. There just doesn't seem to be many Falcos about and they're all bloody miles from me. lol

Cheers guys

i got no problem travelling to get it, it would be nice to be able to see a few though without paying £100s on train fares first or just taking a gamble on evil-bay.

Ventura bars?

I have spent ages looking at Falcos and reading about them across numerous forums, what to look for, and avoid, what upgrades are essential and what are advisable, the stand issues, the rear shock change and end up buying a Tuono. DOH

So what are the essential Tuono upgrades people? And i mean essential first people, i've seen how good you lot are with other peoples money :smt002
A trip to Griff being possibly number 1 on the list.
