If you want to me to have a look at the swinging arm for you I'd be happy to help, I have a dremel and plenty of plus gas. I reckon a Sat mornings work would get 90% of it dismantled for you.

I live in Ossett (not too far from Birstall) so if you want to pop over with it one Sat morning we can have a go at getting it prepared

Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handle bars to the saddle.

...sorry about that, was looking to get the bike to Griff (swingarm complete) for work to begin early/mid Feb, ideally would like bike to be ready to use from March onwards just in case (yes i'm a fair weather rider...and optomistic!)...but nothings set in stone

I just started mine at the weekend and noticed that I hadn't taken the bearing in your 1st photo out yet. I remembered Andy had dremmeled it out, so I set to it and eventually managed to mutilate the inner cage, but had to drive out the shell, which was a complete bastard.

I'm painting mine so I filled the obligatory exhaust dent and manufacturing indentations and started sanding them back last night.

I can see this taking a while, still it's only taken me 5 years to start this job since I bought the swingarm!

You could shortcut removal of the rear spool by cuttin off the outer flange (with the bolt head), which should allow the remainder of the spool to come off the bolt leaving you with something to get a putchase on.

The Chaing guide bolts are wers small and I had a problem with the same one as you (not as bad by the looks of things though). I used a slightly bigger torx bit in an impact driver to get it moving.

As others say, plenty of releasing oil and patience is the order of the day.

These are the guys i was going to use, they're in the next village, Bingley, Andy there seemed a decent guy so glad they get a vote of confidence

Triple S are very very good but mucho expensive.

Maybe also worth having a look at Cas Coaters in Bradford they do a lot of bike stuff and have a good repuation locally. A lot of local bikers have had wheels etc... done by them with excellent results

I used DHS coatings In Birstall. The finish is superb and the coating very thick but I couldn't recommend him after the f**k up on the BMW wheels over Xmas, Shame really because for stuff that doesn't need masking up and protecting his prices are unbeliveably cheap. He did the 2 springs on my WP suspension in gloss white for a tenner and they look superb

Had an interesting reply from AF1 Forum

Consider painting instead of powdercoating. I used "Lab Metal" to fill a dent; and while at it, I filled in that silly round weld part of the right side. I also smoothed out the welds on the top part with the filler. It went on like epoxy, and sanded out like body putty.

As for the paint, I used regular rattle cans (Duplicolor Wheel Coating paint-graphite). It is a good match for the US painted frames. Some Euro guys used Plasticoat Black Metal Flake that matches their (darker) painted frames. Here's a good thread about the Euro paint work:

BTW: After 5 years and about 20,000 miles (some in rain and snow), the paint still holds up as good as new. I did chip it once thanks to my swingarm stand. Which you cannot do with powdercoat, I was able to touch up the paint and fill it in.[/QUOTE]

As I said on AF1 I started this at the weekend.

I'm using Isopon Metallic, bought in the UK. Fill's nicely and sands back well.
