I know there was a thread regarding this, but 3 years ago!
Anyway, the bar ends (standard and rusty)are a touch nasty on mine, so I thought I'd find some new ones. Managed to get the ends off, but there is a hex fitting in the end with a "spigot" and a pin left in the end of the bar, do I remove this as well and buy the new ends that fit up inside or do I leave it in there and find ones that will fit the "spigot" ?
How do I get the bloody things out? Its about a 28mm hex, so no spanner or socket I own will fit and gashing with a mole grips did exactly that! Tight as too!
Falco expertise required please

I think I used a big adjustable spanner

as far as I can recall the 'hex' nut secures a vibration neutralising rod into the bars, its about 6 inches long and has a rubber sleeve to soak up the vibes. If you really need to take it of a set of plumbers adjustable pliers would do the trick, the nut shouldn't be that tight anyway. If I were you I would leave alone though, the wife was getting very bad vibes through the bars on her futura and it turns out her rods had been removed to allow after market bar ends to be fitted, problem solved once more rods were fitted.

On my Triumph Chop I had 18" 'ape hangers' and the vibes through the bars were horrendous. Couldn't do much more than 20 miles at full chat without having to stop and let the blood back in to my hands and fore arms.. This was solved by getting some roofing lead (from a roofers merchants before you all start about the local church roof leaking! haha), rolling it up to fit inside the bars and tapping it home with a mallet.. After that shoved a wood screw up the middle of the roll which expands the lead a little to help secure it. The extra weight wasn't an issue on that bike, but neither were bad vibrations after I'd done it.

Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handle bars to the saddle.

As D-Rider says, big pair of open jaw pliers, fitted R&G last week with no probs, would recommend some blue loctite though so you don't lose one on the road!

Yes, I should add that I only removed mine to fit the heated grips - they went back on after that had been done.
Didn't want to encourage the vibes.

I took mine out and put in some slim bar ends and I've had no vibraion problems, even on a 9 hour run.
I've got the bars over the top yolk, but I can't see that making any difference.
If you have trouble getting the bar ends off in the future, try wrapping some plastic/rubber tube round the bar ends and grip with adjustable plumbers pliers to stop the end rotating when undoing the bolt.
I used an adjustable spanned and a sharp whack with a hammer to get the big hex nut off.
TBH there isn't much weight in the rods, so I'm sceptical they make a lot of difference, but as Will says, there are means to add your own damping.

Thanks guys, got the bugger out! Holy crap, a bit overkill in there, about a 4 inch bar inserted in there too! dont know why I thought it was a 28mm, it was way smaller than that.
Look for some nice bar ends now.
Got the "tail junk" off at the mo and about to fab up a nice tail tidy, who does huggers for them?? think that might not go a miss either.

Ah, only just noticed what exupmonkey said, might have to rethink, or spin some nice ally ones up that fit the original fittings.

I have fitted, and rate, the R&G bar ends - straight on fit
while you are playing with them, may be an idea to fit those heated grips you always wanted as well - again I would suggest the R&G ones as they are smaller than the oxford ones
Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Heated grips?? what ever for? lol.
There are very few times I'd need these here and I really dont like them, make the bars too "fat"

the R&G ones are not so fat - only just a touch larger than the original grips.....

Old post I know but I'm after some bar ends and want r&g to tie in with the rest of the stuff on the bike. Are they the same as the mille ones of the same year? Or falco specific? And where is best to get them from (I've seen them on eBay for about £25..
Cheers.
