I could argue with that statement.
But too much of a gentleman to disagree with a lady!

I found his humour a bit wearing after a while, and nearly ran into him on the Isle of Man about 20 years ago when he pulled out of a side road into the path of my bike. I was just about to give him some of my best words when I realised it was Norman Wisdom. He had the good grace to look very sheepish (and not a little gaga if truth be told).
Wouldn't say it's an age or fashion thing, I still like Laural and Hardey and the Three Stooges (but get bored by Buster Keaton). I don't really like Lee Evens either, though I did think he was very good in The Producers stage show.

Top post!
I went to see him as a kid at Margate Lido in the 70's, he was such a funny bloke
I heartly recomend his autobiography, what that guy went through in his early days isn't know by a lot of people, but a really funny/sad read
Yes his films weren't always end to end comedy as he wasn't an out and out comedian it was entertainment, it's all subjective and he was different, a musician, singer, broadway actor and top boxer in the army. Different kettle of fish to the others, if you'd have seen him live you would have experienced a different act to the films.
When Laurel and Hardy came over to the UK they made a specific request to see his act
...for the record i'm 43
God bless
