timings and plans

#1 Post by Aladinsaneuk » Sun Oct 03, 2010 10:11 am

ok, putting this here so myself and andy can edit it as we plan stuff - I have no doubt it will end up in the events section in time...

BUT

starting to plan things for next year, and wanting to get some thoughts from other folks on events that people would be interested in going too.

APRIL/EARLY MAY - Newark meets

MAY - I suspect that the National Club Aprilia Meet will be in this month

JUNE - nothing planned that I am aware of but see below

JULY - I have a cunning plan for this... but that by the nature of the beast will have to be revealed by PM.... expect a post in the falco section asking for contact details soon
2/3/4 July is goodwood festival - should not clash with what I have in mind....
AUGUST - nothing planned that I am aware of of

SEPTEMBER - Norfolk meet - at beginning of the month, not at the end!

Events or thoughts that I am aware of folks thinking of:
Martdude is thinking of something over near wales/in wales.... no date or set plans yet
Some mutterings have been heard about something more northerly - scots borders perhaps?
La Belle France for a few days has been mooted
Popping over to the Isle of Man or possibly the Isle of Wight via Manchester.....

Is there anything else that people are considering that others could join in with?

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

I'll be doing the usual Pub outing to Jersey over the late May bank holiday. No reason others can't tag along. £10 prov booking, £7 per night digs (3 nights overall) and the ferry ticket £TBC. Set sail from Poole usually.. Is a very very good weekend! :smt003

August. Hmm.. I know of a few places where we could had a 'trad rally'. Depends if the land owner would mind (and also if the weathers good cuz it get's boggy next to the Avon)

We are planning a two week trip around the four countries. Zig zag our way up through England to Bonny Scotland and have a few days touring Scotland. Then ferry over to Ireland and tour there for a few days. Then ferry over to south west of England tour a few areas, then ride up to South Wales and zig zag our way home.

Not done any planning yet but i estimate about two weeks worth of sight seeing/riding good roads.

I'm thinking of 2nd/3rd weekend of June. I'd like to try to make this accessible to those who don't/won't camp (no comments about pink leather caps, please), so I'm trying (with little success so far) to find a good pub with camping and rooms. Looking at Shropshire and the nearer (i.e. eastern) parts of mid-Wales.

One possibilty is Presteigne (Radnorshire, as was). Excellent campsite, with good facilities, less than 1 mile from the town, which has several good pubs, some with rooms, & a fair selection of B & Bs and small hotels.

Another possibility is the Green Dragon, Buttington, nr. Welshpool. Camping only, but there is accommodation in Welshpool itself - but I haven't had time to reserch it yet.

More research to be done, I'll post up when I have something more concrete. Suggestions for other locations welcome

Wouldn't this be better in 'Rideouts & Events' now?

Just thinking of advance notice for those benighted souls who don't often come on this bit of RS

I tend to put things for general consumption in the General Aprilia area and Pop up a post in the general forums that links to the one in aprilia-land.
This way everyone can see it and I (and Pete) can edit the main post to keep things up to date.

I'm very, VERY, interested in what Martdude is planning, so please count me in on that. It also ties in with dates when I can be reasonably sure of being in the UK (i.e. not at the moneypit).

Which leads me onto...

As a lot of forumers know, we have a 'project' (actually, it's not quite that bad) in the South of France. It has four bedrooms (well, our bedroom and 3 empty rooms that can accomodate sleeping bags etc.) and a large garage. And a roof terrace. And it's in a wine-producing village. And the roads nearby are fuggin' great. And the Med is 30km away.

We tend to get down there for 3 main 'vacances' during the year; late May/early June for serious house renovation stuff, early/mid July for a holiday (although this year it was so bloody hot we could hardly move), and mid/late September for a mix of hols and renovation.

If a forum foray into La Belle France were to coincide with one of these time frames (or could be made to do so), then we would be happy to provide 'camping in a house' facilities (we don't have any garden). Probably best not in May, as that's when the serious building work gets done, but the other dates could be managed.

Just an idea...

I'm in for one in June .... before the end of the current holiday year at work .... I had been planning to speak with you following my failure to sort it out this year

france

I am oscillating bewtween normandy and south of france

Normandy is that bit closer - could get there easily in a day, stay 4 or 5 nights and get back.... all with in a week. South of france would be better weather but a lot longer to get there....

but, cheers for the offer mango :)
