More weighing.
Took receipt of some lovely Renthal sprockets and a Tsubaki chain from B&C Express today. These are the results:
42T standard steel sprocket - 1.12kg
42T 520 Renthal Ultralite - 0.27kg
17T steel front sprocket (no idea why either...) - 0.31kg
15T 520 Renthal Ultralite - 0.19kg
Standard chain - 2.16kg
Tsubaki 520 chain - 1.94kg
Total weight saving from swapping standard chain and sprockets is a whopping 1.19kg or 2.62lbs.

Looks as though most of this comes from the sprockets and relatively little from the 520 chain.
I guess hard anodised ally rear sprockets are the way to go to save mass - unsprung and rotational at that.

hey Ben, can you take off the alternator and run it as a total loss system? is this allowed in the regs?
also the starter is a bit of weight is that allowed to go?

Both possible, but for ease of use both are staying. There's a bloke in the paddock with a lovely flat track style Triumph that's a pain in the bum to start - he always needs assistance. Try bump starting a falco! Especially one that has a lot less mass...
However - in other news, the battery that came out weighs 4kg. The one going in weighs 0.73kg!

It's been a while since I posted anything about the Falclimber, so here's something to bring progress up to date.
The bike came with a horrendously bad knock from the bottom end and as such, the whole bike came for £500 from eBay. It turns out the flywheel was loose and had been knocking backward and forward against the woodruff key. This led to the keyway being widened a significant amount. I successfully repaired the woodruff keyway with chemical metal, lapped the taper and flywheel back together and fitted a new sprag while I was in there (the one in it worked but was very worn/scored).
It now runs very sweetly indeed. This is a pic of it last weekend after getting it running and fitting the single seat unit from Italy. The seat is away for painting at the moment and I'm waiting for a mate to come up and build a race wiring loom for it - the wiring that's behind the lights won't fit behind a number board.

It's looking likely that it'll hit the scales at 180kg ready to go. Possibly.

you going for the oberon or mpl clutch?
Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...
