Sorry but you do not ride rings around anything on a Harley unless the footboards have grounded big style ands its spinning around on one of them ! :smt003 :smt003
The V-Rod with the standard pegs, (Can't remember what they called it) went well and also handled pretty good on A Road bends.

OK - so SHE is good ..... but that doesn't stop Harleys from being crap now, does it?

I guess they will also appeal to girls and others of shorter stature (not that I'm suggesting all girls are short - just the statistical average .... and Mrs Paddy .....)
Mrs Paddy wouldn't even dream of shitting out a harley :smt003

Sorry - didn't mean to suggest she would - she didn't strike me as being completely unhinged (or unhinged at all come to that)

i always ride with whatever feels comfortable. (waits for the gay/costume etc jokes)

Infact, before i serviced the falco, it was rather lumpy until 3.5k, then it would get better as the revs climbed.

After the service, and with new plugs (the front old ones were the originals - im 99% sure, never seen plugs so rusty) and ther addition of a pipercross air filter, it pulls from the word go, smoothly and progressively, giving a nice kick at 5-6k where it just takes off and lifts the front wheel if you accelerate hard enough.

i couldnt be happier with the filter!

I have set my rev limiter light at 9k, and i usually change there if the road speed limit permits and there is nothing in front.

i tend to sit in third at 30mph, it pulls well from there. at motorway speeds im usually in 3rd to the speed limit, then put it into sixth, dropping down a peg if i have to accelerate quickly.

Seriously, i cant believe what a difference the filter has made! it has made it soooo much easier around town....

Im off to put the sl carbon's back on, then im gonna live up to my forum title and go for a midnight blast around the local twisties!

Oh, i did, only did about 40 miles but i had to get it out of my system. God how i have missed the bike, and the amazing sound of those sl cans.

If only the roads were as quiet during the day...

..... I think they might be quieter when you're not blatting up and down them with those SL cans roaring away.

3-4K around town, if being reasonably considerate to 5K out of , 6k is moving it a bit, 7K definitely lively as in front off the deck comming off round abouts etc., more than that happens every now and again but best made sure its pointed roughly where you need to go before it hits 7K.

I just can't imagine taking it to 9+ everywhere...... how come you have a license? how come you are still alive?

left work earlier and decided to really let the 54mm bodies go for it - impressive wheelies at 5 k revs :)

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

In my short lived experience with this great bike (even if it is bronze!) anything above 6k revs and you need to be on the ball because (a) in the lower gears this means you're accelerating pretty rapidly and other road users may not be aware of your presence or, if they have clocked you initially, your subsequent change in road position and (b) in the higher the gears your straight line speed will be well over the speed limit hence you may attract unwelcome attention.

It's for these reasons that I am now convinced that loud cans (Wolf in my case or so I was told since they are unmarked) are an invaluable safety device for dozy drviers :smt003 I have yet to put this argument to the test with the local constabulary ...

In general though I'm still feeling my way around the bike so have set the limiter light to 7k which is roughly when peak torque & power is achieved. It gets up there pretty quick in each and every gear which never fails to put a silly grin on my face! :smt003

If I have any gripe I'm finding that around town and in slowish traffic I have to keep it in a lower gear to keep it clean when rolling off the throttle - is that normal?? I wouldn't say the bike is running rough but I thought it might run a bit smoother..... :smt017

still messing about with riding at different revs

to try to get used to the riding position etc I have decided to start riding the bike to work, which is a pretty dull 30/40 zone commute

I'm finding I can let the revs fall as low as 2, 2.5 and it still runs fine, though big throttle openings at those revs make it judder like mad..

On balance though I think that for easy commuting speeds I'm settling at 3k and then for having a laugh its 5/6 or more depending on the conditions

one thing I have found though is that its actually quite easy to stall the bike though by trying to ride it in a really high gear at low revs, also very easy to instantly jump start it again by just dropping the clutch..

I'm stalling it way more than I have any other bike, though I think it might be the after market cans that are just a lot louder than any other bike I've ridden that make me think the engine is revving harder than it really is, especially without earplugs in..

damn easy to ride fast though.. I hope I can keep my licence intact :)

any bike, longer than 5 minutes at speeds over 30mph leads to permanent hearing damage - thats just from wind noise

as i said, wear ear plugs - always
