HID front/ LED rear????

#1 Post by furygan man » Mon May 24, 2010 2:32 pm

Hello hello again, sorry if this has been covered many times but i am still a newbie and keep coming up with things that need doing!!

A) Firstly- For the first time i rode my bike in the dark and thought things could be improved so first question, HID conversion...where do i get one, i know there is a thread by 'd-rider' on how to fit it, I'm just not sure where to start

B) Secondly- How do you convert the rear tail light to one that uses LED's, is it easy, where do you start or can someone recomend someone/somewhere to get this done?? I'm a complete numpty when it comes to anything electrical so replies have to be in plain English please!!

Appologies (d-rider) if this is in the wrong thread/topic

My credit rating is excellent but is fast in decline...please help :smt009

People tend to buy the HIDs from Ebay .... mine was 2nd hand - formerly on a Futura but others have found new ones from the far east.
I seem to remember Sabestian posted up about the one he fitted but I'm sure others will be along to advise too.

The LED rears .... well Nooj used to make up some lovelly LED boards - I've got these. He stopped as it just wasn't viable, given the time it took.
Others have sourced LED replacements for the fillament bulbs - they have the same fittings and plug straight in.
The Search facility will lead you there.

first off find an accomplice in crime - then buy a car set of HID replacements and split the costs

I think we need H7 type btw... was some time ago, and having spent a week end with greybeard i fear the dementia is catching.....

I bought mine for £20 plus £20 delivery from hong kong - but http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Xenon-HID-Light-C ... 2306e23cf3 seems to be a fair bit cheaper!

you are looking for something that has a small ballast btw - that will help a lot

(I would suggest that you only do the dip beam..... )

also, HID's are not instant on - so follow the obligatory guide to doing the always on light mod - https://www.ridersite.com/viewtopic.php?t=1517

finally fitting the thing - Badgers san's guide is https://www.ridersite.com/viewtopic.php?t=1507

LED rears - well - thats an easy one for standard lights - https://www.ridersite.com/viewtopic.ph ... t=led+tail has a good discussion on them - and links to what you need

personally, I would like to add some indicators to my nooj set of leds...

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Thanks again both for the heads up

Had a look in to the links, the HID looks scarier than it proberbly is, will leave it for another time as i've got my hands on a brighter H7 bulb for free for the time being. The link for the HK site will be stored for future ref

I noticed D-rider that on your post you said there was no great benifit from the HID conversion? Will more than likely do the wiring tweak anyway so dip and hi can come on at the same time

Rear- I didn't realise that LED's came as a cluster with a standard plug in rear, i had visions of trying to link up a string of LED's and creating a home made reflector/holder!!

Many many thanks...until next time!

Just picked up my sprayed belly pan for some Saturday fettling :smt003

Ever so slight drift off topic-sorry in advance. What colour have you sprayed your bellypan, furygan? I tried Rover Hurricane Grey but that didn't work, so I resorted to satin black but I'm still not happy. However, as the weather improves and roads beckon,it's likely to stay that way until the off season.

No probs!

I went professional I'm afraid. Flame Red is hard to achieve with car paint as they have to spray onto silver etc etc

http://www.revolutioncustompaint.co.uk/Pages/home.html

They matched to the seat cowl and got pretty dam close

Price was £120 plus VAT, Dream Machine quoted £250!!!

Sorry can't be of any help! :smt009

Thanks for that, furygan. I'm a cheapskate! Your red sounds like the real deal, and not too expensive for a professional job.

Nooooo - it's a great improvement.

I've looked back through those old threads (looks as though a few pictures need to be sorted out again) and I think I've found the bit you mean ... I was responding rather sarcastically to someone that questioned the validity of the mod given the brightness of the standard lights.
I think I said that I'd tried it in the day and it didn't improve things ..... ie it didn't do anything when it was turned OFF in the daylight.

When used in the dark it improves the (already good) lights significantly.
