Jangly front end
I've managed to get a few miles in so far this year and it's official - the front end is too jangly. I seem to pick up lots of bumps even on the motorway. The previous owner had the forks done by Maxton. I suspect the front set up is for a heavier person than me - he was a bit larger. The forks may work well on the track, but I like a soft set up on the road. I've backed the pre-load and damping right off. Maybe I need to try them up a bit. Any thoughts?

If you have sticktion then the first thing I'd check is that the forks aren't binding.
Slacken the axel nut off a little , loosen the axel clamps. Bounce the forks up and down on the front brake and re tighten.
By all means if its never been changed to your knowledge then change the fork too.

Sticktion = Static Friction. Check your fork seals. Are the fork legs bent? inners and outers can bend so check both. Are the forks aligned properly/twisted in the yokes? Are the damping shims sticking closed in old lumpy fork oil? Maybe even have a look at the internal bushes if it really feels sticky and nothing else comes to light.
