hmmm
i am an apple fanboy - and i think they missed the point with their review
it is a netbook replacement - and as such is uesefull
I will give them two points - one will be fixed on version 2 - and one that won't be
a usb port - yep will come
adobe flash - would love it, but doubt it at moment
beyond that - yep, i would have one - like tomorrow - imagine a small, portable full on netbook that does everything, and has in excess of 10 hours battery life watching films etc

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...
LOL, I personally have a bite of the Apple, but cant say im a great fan, I own a 3rd gen shuffle. Thats it. Itunes is a pain in the ass.
I read the article but found more pros and cons from the comments written in response to it.
Personally I dont understand most of the Apple hype over it's products and software.. Iphone may be quite 'doody' but as my daughter's mate found out, it costs 14 quid for a pattern touch screen, 20 for a new lcd display, and a lot of sucking up to uncle Tim to fix it..(or else it's 200 quid thankyou very much at Apple store) all for the sake of having it one day and dropping it on a gravel path.. my samsung tocco has suffered similar but has proven more robust.. no broken screen, no problems. I dont have to 'jailbreak' it to run non manufacturer approved apps either..
The IPad as a netbook replacement? Hmm its got tough competition from proven technology and design, with Apple cashing in more on it's 'stylish' I series designs, possibly.
It's battery life may be excellent, I'll give apple that, they have a knack of choosing decent chinese battery suppliers, but whether it's worth the money over the cost of a netbook such as the Dell 10 coming in at 200 quid? Debatable.
I can angle the screen to reduce glare while still maintaining control of the keyboard to type (not on-screen) I dont have to buy an extra stand to mount it in, or apps to carryout synching with other hardware and have more compatibility with the products i would use when using a netbook, such as cameras, wifi printers and external add-ons such as memory expansions and drives.
Ipad? All for progression in technology, but somehow i think this is just another display item to accompany the Ipod and Iphone. Next will be an ITV... which will definately a step back.. we already have Channel 4 and Channel 5.....

It'll be interesting to see how it does after 6 months but I think theyve gone one too far with the Ipad. A nice idea as a design exercise, but is it really really worth it?

Dont get me wrong I have no problems with Apple's 3GS phones bar their overpricing and the way the phone has to be looked after with kid gloves.. I too didnt/wouldnt buy a 1st Gen Iphone but I did consider the 3GS until the point I found a 40 quid I9xxx does exactly what the 2G Iphone did. (which set off alarm bells as to whether the Iphone 3GS was really worth the money?) The genuine spares for them are seriously extortionate and if you jailbreak it your warranty is useless. I love the phone for what it is, what it can do, but there's things that put me off.
Apple is just as crap as MS is as far as giving to the community with a bit of cross platform compatibility. Why cant I use my own MP3's on my shuffle and without having to use Itunes? I can store files on it, so why cant I play tunes in a different format? The technology is there to enable it, they just choose not to as 'they know best'.
As for the Ipad. It's just a big Iphone at the moment, when they stop beta testing it and release the 2nd Gen or 3rd Gen, it may be worth a look, like you say, but it's got to get that far without falling on it's ass first!

Not a huge fan of any of Apple's "i" range. The iPod lacks decent sound quality, although has a good menu system. The iPhone IMO is just a gimmick and i can't see the point of the iPod Touch as the iPhone does the same, then some. It's all about the fashion to me.. Nothing fantastic on the technology side of it, but i'll give them points for style.
The MP3 player i use is one of the best I've listened to. It's a 1" cube with pretty good OLED display and brilliant sound quality. It's only got a 1gb memory, but sometimes I struggle to fill that. No need for fancy software, just drag and drop on to it like a normal pen-drive. It can handle folders has had a user definable EQ. Cost.. well, the first one I had I won on one of those arcade machines (was bored..lol) and the other was an eBay win.. When new, they would've been around the £80 mark. (Called a Q-Be, also Mobiblu Q1)
As for netbooks.. They have their place, but they're just too small for my sausage fingers..

Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handle bars to the saddle.

In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular.
It's an Apple ... part of the I-con range so people buy it for the name and pay rather more than they would for a non-Apple branded product that does essentially the same job.
