Newbie... and I want me a Falco!
Hi guys
Been riding for a couple of years now and have racked up at least 30k through commuting and European/UK rideouts... loving every minute! I've only ridden Jap inline 4s (previous bikes are Fazer FZS600, Hornet and currently a Bandit 650) but have always dreamed of getting a v-twin, a thou and an italian motor... the Falco ticks all the boxes!
I've recently had a job move and will be moving home so my 80mile round commute has now been transformed to a 10min walk so I'm selling the Bandit and getting myself a fun toy that will probably be a Falco.
So... I have a budget of 3k max but would obviously prefer to spend a little less (but am of course willing to spend my budget for the right bike). What sort of condition etc. am I looking at for this kind of money? What issues do I need to keep an eye on? Any tell-tale signs, other than the main bike ones, that shows something is being hidden/there may be issues?
I am going to look at an X reg model tomorrow thats at a dealer for 3k... its got 20k miles and bags of history... there is also sfoley1 on here who is selling his bike that looks good... and a guy a lot more local to me with a Y reg and he is the only owner... but serviced it himself so no history whatsoever (all red models 2000/2001). They all have ~17k - 20k miles.
Any info mucho appreciated!
Rick.

Little to look for other than you'd normally look for.
There are a few things to sort out with them if they've not been done already but those things wouldn't stop you buying and are fairly simple anyhow.
Do a search on the forum and you'll find plenty of advice on this.
£3K for an X reg with only 20k miles strikes me as very expensive.
Bought my 05 reg brand new for £4999.
The market varies so you'd be advised to look on Autotrader and Ebay to see what they are going for at the moment.
If you spot any you're interested in then post a link and we'll comment on what we can see.
Forum members here are a good bunch and bikes always worth considering.

Mmmm, not sure if the PM worked so...
Red SL1000 Falco
X reg (Jan 2001)
Only 2 owners (inc myself)
8839 Miles
Maxton rear shock ( @ £525)
Factory Pro chip ( @ £160 and original)
Renagade air kit ( @ £180 and original)
Skorpion pipes ( @ £236 and originals)
Tail tidy ( @ £45)
Radiator cover guards x3 ( @ £60)
Original single seat cover
Datatagged
Meta alarm/immobilizer
Michelin pilot sport tyres (only done 150 miles @ £180)
Paddock stand
12 month MOT
This bike is in "as new" condition. She has been kept in a heated garage under cover all the time I have owned her (Since October 2001). I have not had the time to ride her much in the last 4-5 years and finally have decided to let her go. The V-Twin punch from this bike is staggering, it will make you smile every time you twist the throttle! She handles like a sports bike with comfort to be able to do 500+ miles in a day ( I went to the Isle Of Man on her in 2002 - 1000 miles in 5 days with not an ache!) This is one of, if not the best Falco you will find available. Feel free to ask any question or to view. Test rides are ok if you put the full amount in my hand first (insurance and licence required).

Growing old, not up!
Hi guys
Yeah my gut feeling is that the X reg for 3k is on the pricier side of things, but it does look in excellent condition... of course it'll always be more expensive at a dealership and it would come with a full MOT and a small warranty... although tbh I've always bought my bikes privately in the past and have always got a bargain.
The dealership one is this one: http://www.motostrada.co.uk/bikeDetail. ... =&records= and the private one is this one http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/ ... ?logcode=p which looks super condition and only the one owner.
Cheers.
