Being realistic, I cannot see it making any real difference unless you have a completely sealed ram air system into a larger sealed airbox.
It will possibly let a bit more air through I suppose,
(But this will only work on the fast Falcos).
Also not sure how much you would notice on the noise side either.
My induction was noticably louder with just a K&N kit and it is louder still on a Falco with an Rene or Evo induction setup.
After that sort of change I cannot imagine you would notice noise from the snorkel change too much.
I suppose if it does sound louder, you have to assume more air is coming through.
I'll let you decide Andy.
Good luck.
It would still be nice if you can prove the early fast Falcos really did exist, and stop all the silly arguments!

I really don't know about performance (and I really don't care about top end) but I can tell you it does make a noticeable change in sound.
I was not expecting a different sound or listening out for it this morning but immediately noticed the difference in sound that it made - it was only a little later that I put 2 and 2 together - realising that this was caused by the different air intake.
There can really only be a few potential reasons for Aprilia redesigning the part and then tooling up (or their supplier tooling up) to make a different part.
1) A major cost saving ..... Nope it's not that - the later part is more complex.
2) Emissions issues - possibly - but there are more simple and effective methods than this
3) Noise Issues - possible and if it were to meet any targets the difference in sound would need to be appreciably less ..... and it does seem to be so ... that's where my money is.

Proof? I just open the garage door and there it is. Certainly early, certainly loud, certainly fast and certainly black.......
Methinks it was lifting a bit in third today when I was being a bit brutal with the throttle.

lol
Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

So finally we can put this argument to bed once and for all, the early
Black and Red Falcos were faster, sounded better and as we know looked better.
Glad that's over, cos all the others were never too shabby.

A bit of an update on the list of jobs:

Up until now I've been using a top yoke that Syltiz lent me (basically a Mille-R yoke) - but I thought I'd better get my own and do like the appearance of the RSVR ones.
It's now on there but there is a minor technical issue to resolve - I'll explain that when I've fixed it.
Also, although I have a bronze Falco and this RSVR yoke I have is a sort of bronzey colour, it's the wrong sort of bronzey colour and doesn't really go .... so it will be coming off again for a visit to the powder coater.
So a little more work to complete it all but the temporary fit shows it's going to be nice when finished.
Yoke dropped off at the powder coaters on Saturday
looking forward to collecting it soon.

In the meantime ebay has been hit for a scooter exhaust.
Fitted it tonight .... back on the ultra-scooter tomorrow .... at least until I can get the chain changed on the falco (it's now making nasty dragging noises .... but not too loose in some spots).
Good news is after I fitted the scooter exhaust, I had a major search and found my missing chain riveter tool
Might have a go at that tomorrow night ......

Andy, what's your plan for the gap around the ignition barrel when you fit the RSV top yoke?
Cheers

Wouldn't mind seeing how that works out.....I fitted mine at the weekend and I'm stuck with what to do with the gap! Looks great though.

Have you sorted out the steering lock alignment?
I need to sort out a spacer to align the pin with the hole and lengthen the pin to engage in the hole.
(anticipates smutty remark from our resident dweller of the swamplands)

I just used a stack of washers, doesn't look great but did the job!

Yes, once I'd worked out how far it needed to go, I used a couple of nuts as spacers
(cue more comment from the swamp dwellers) to align it.
I'm planning to sort out something a bit nicer .... but may just fall back on this solution.
