Without blowing the bikes trumpet, it is a bargain, but I won't tell you how much "webuyanybike.com" offered me for it :smt013

I would prefer to see it go to someone who appreciates the model, and who's going to use it as it was intended, I would be REALLY sad to see it go , I've had some great times on the bike :smt009 , but needs must and all that.......

roflmao - Dan told me..... very scary what they offered LOL

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

I have cross posted this to a couple of other places - though I hate to see one of the first falco owners I met leave the fold, if it helps him out then cool

and no, i am not on commission....

:smt003
Long time no hear mate!
How are you doing?
Sad to hear you may be having to get rid of the Falco, but would obviously be nice if it went to a good home on here.
Hope things all work out for you.

Hi Danowat,

Sorry to hear about the car, but the bike looks like just what I'm looking for, & not a thousand miles away from here, I'll PM you.

Cheers Rob

Hi Dan - good to see you on here again - but sad to hear you are having to sell.

Hopefully you and Stivesvelo can sort out something that suits you both and the bike will go to a good home ..... and on the bright side, we might manage to get a decent shock put on it at last :smt002

Cheers

Cheers all :smt003 yeah, never did get round to changing the shock!!!.

As I said, I'd be sad to see it go :smt009 (infact my heart is fighting with my head about selling it), but the reality is that the last time I rode it was in Aug 2008 to the Ace cafe, just don't get the time to ride it anymore, and its gutting to see it sitting in the garage unused when it should be used, and I need the money :smt005 .

Still we've had some good times, the memories of riding it to Germany and around the ring are something I'll never forget :smt001

Also think I seriously over estimated the mileage, I think its just only passed 10k, but I'll check tonight.

valve clearances

#26 Post by stivesvelo » Fri Feb 26, 2010 8:33 pm

Has anyone done the valve clearances on their Falco?

If they haven't needed to be done since the first service, what can you expect, do the clearances close up or open up and what sort of mileage are they likely to need doing?

Do you need any special tools to do it?

TIA

Rob

LOL .... I've hardly heard of anyone who has needed them to be adjusted. They should be checked every other service (about 9,000 miles) but almost never need doing.

They are a bucket and shim job - no idea how difficult as I've not needed to do mine - might get a dealer to do that to save the hassle if it ever needs doing.

i tried to shim a punto a few weeks ago, measuring the shims and trying to work out what size shims i needed blew my mind :smt017 so gave it to an engine centre. cost me £20. alot easier.

My best memory was with the old Twin Cam Escort Rally car.
I did the calculations, current gap, shim thickness, thickness of new shim required.
Then did the clever bit and worked out how many of the ones that would be coming out were the right size to be used somewhere else. So I had just had to buy the new ones for the rest.
So went to the locsl ford dealer to get them. You want what? (All normal cars had O/H valves and screw tappets at that time).
Oh yeh we had them once, came back with a little box with a dozen in, probably one the size that I needed, went round every Ford dealer in South and West Yorkshire before I got a set within 1 or 2 thou of what I needed.
Hope Aprilia Dealers have better stocks, they should have as they are very commonly used now.

Checked them twice in 35,000 miles of my ownership and they were exactly as recorded by the previouse owner the first time round. To check them and change plugs you need a good quality ratchet on your socket set, there is not much room. My old socket set would swing between frame and rocker cover without a click......
