I have had my homemade rene kit fitted for two years without any problems. No problems in town where the 'hot air' you speak of could cause problems (do you really think hot air is getting sucked in when you are moving at 10mph or more) .

As for the breather pipe, mine is helping the chain get oiled. In those two years I have never had any issues with the breather dumping oil and i have never had a slick under my bike. On a side note i would say that the scottoiler dumps more oil than the breather.

I can say that this has been a two year experiment and the results are above.

Airbox...

#17 Post by GregD-UK » Wed Nov 25, 2009 5:13 pm

Hi all,

I got an renegade and fitted a new air filter breather to my carbon plate. Bought that from artel motorsport online, fitted it with some 10mm copper pipe and some 10mm bore reinforced hose for the breather tube. Helps when you are a gas engineer :smt002

Induction noise is very wery good :smt003
My warranty is the clear/smoked tail lights around the corner!!

Paddy, Kwackerz,

I was only repeating what I'd heard from others regarding heat and crankcase venting and having to make alternative arrangements. I certainly wasn't trying to disparage Rene systems or home-brewed alternatives. I'm operating from a position of ignorance, as I've not tried either Rene or Evo airbox mods myself. I'm simply trying to make sense of sometimes conflicting information/viewpoints depending on who you speak to.

I think I'll keep quiet on this until I've got some personal experience...

Sorry if it sounded like i was having a go. I was just giving my own take on my finding. I also have no experiance of the Evo kit and am sure it has its own adavantages. The rene kit however.....fire you questions over :smt002

:smt001 Just wanted to see if you'd expand on it a bit, thats all

The hose from the crankcase either gets fitted with an aftermarket breather filter (ala the boy racer cars) or with the extra hose it gets redirected to the front sprocket and serves to oil the chain

I thought there was a pressure build up problem that i wasnt aware of, that was all. :smt001 Glad to hear not!

Breather pipe..

#21 Post by GregD-UK » Wed Nov 25, 2009 8:18 pm

Hi all,

My breather pipe use to come from the top of the cam cover down to "feed" the front sprocket, thus oiling my chain kinda :smt002 I found that sometimes it would dump abit of oil down and splatter onto the swingarm and dog and bone area :smt012

So, I thought gravity could give me a hand. I redirected the hose up and between the cam covers to the other side of the rene air plate at a rising angle, then some 10mm copper up through the carbon plate onto my artel air filter. All the air filter does it to allow some air back into the engine to stop emulsification of the oil. I wanted to reduce the oil being released through the pipe. Guess it has worked and no oil has come out of the air filter :smt016

Pleased with my "Adjustment," and I just clean and add my fluid to the chain as and when required. With my now clean swingarm and attached parts :smt003
My warranty is the clear/smoked tail lights around the corner!!

I have run both systems

both are good

both give the same performance overall

the rene kit sounds better

the rene kit either requires the breather routing to the front sprocket or a filter fitting - i chose the filter as i had a scottoiler already

the evo kit requires vaseline - a fair amount to ensure a good seal imho

why did i go from evo to rene - bragging rights and an all rene system :)

would i use an evo again - yes, but i do prefer my renegade :)

oh - million dollar question - if you had a stock bike, would i fit either a evo or renegade solution again - damn right - the opening of the airbox makes a BIG difference

would i bother fitting a K&N airfilter to a stock air box - no, pointless exercise!

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Does fitting either kit make a difference to fuel economy.
( £1.06 a litre today - eek!)

not as much as my 54 mm throttle bodies did...
