Good question .... no clear answer .... there are some that say the standard airbox is just as good as either .... except for the (lack of) noise.
Probably some airbox variants work better with some combinations of exhausts, chips, PCIII maps, throttle bodies etc etc than others .... and the others may work better with other combinations.
In terms of design I have some technical concerns with both the Evo and the Rene ... they each have different technical advantages and disadvantages - that's why I've got my own idea of how I'm going to make one that eliminates my biggest concerns with each type.
That certainly doesn't mean that I see either as poor - I wouldn't claim to be an expert in this area and know Jorge and Ken Zeller are very experienced in these things and have come up with good pieces of kit .... there are just a couple of things that having looked at both of their designs, I think could do with some extra attention.

I think (to quote Ligloo) that they could do with strapping in from the top...D-Rider wrote:there are just a couple of things that having looked at both of their designs, I think could do with some extra attention.

Seriously, I agree Andy. I think what's really needed is a compromise solution, drawing on the best of both approaches. I would feel very nervous with the Evo design, as the velocity stacks are completely unprotected should anything get past the filter or rubber seal.
With the Rene design the stacks are fully protected, but there are issues with crankcase venting and hot air rising off the engine being drawn in.
To be honest, I'm going to have a crack at the method that enlarges the internal volume of the airbox while using a less restrictive filter. It may not give quite the performance of the Evo or Rene designs, but it doesn't have their inherent drawbacks either...
when you draw up this brilliant design can i have one? hell, i will even use my bike as the test dummy if you want!D-Rider wrote:Good question .... no clear answer .... there are some that say the standard airbox is just as good as either .... except for the (lack of) noise.

I know what I'm going to do - it's just a case of finding time to do it. Seems that Graham (mango) and I have both identified the same issues - it'll be interesting to see how similar or different the solutions are (mind you, I have a couple of variants)
