Problem solved, blown fuse! found after searching the other place

New battery bought anyway, which I'm happy with as the old battery was a bit ropey on starting from time to time. Sounds much healthier now.

check the fan connectors for corrosion, my bet is that there is electrical impedance there...i have the t-shirt
