I like the way you're thinking on this...mangocrazy wrote:On a completely different tangent, has anybody ever re-sprung a 2001-2003 Ohlins or Sachs to work with the Falco linkages? Spring rate on the 2001-2004 Ohlins is 540 lb/ins and is 800 lbs/in on the Falco Sachs.
Just interested, is all...
What I'm thinking is what actually is it that doesn't work from the 01-03 type Sachs on standard linkages? As the length is adjustable on the yellow spring, if it just the spring that's the problem then it should just be a simple matter of changing it and hey presto yellow spring works with Falco linkages.
Or has someone already thought of that and theres more to it, ie internals.

The Falco linkages have a significantly higher ratio than the 01-03 RSV ones, requiring a higher spring rate. This also means that for any given wheel movement the shock travel will be less on the Falco shock/linkages than on the RSV shock/linkages. So the 01-03 RSV shock will need to have a longer travel than the Falco Sachs. As a result there won't be any shock travel issues using an 01-03 RSV shock on Falco linkages.
The only issue I can see is internal valving will be stiffer on the Falco shock than on the 01-03 RSV shock. But given the amount of adjustment available on both the 01-03 Sachs or Ohlins RSV shock, I'm fairly sure this shouldn't be a problem in practise.
So - who's going to be the first to try it?

If anyone is interested in the
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Aprilia-RSV1000-R ... 7C294%3A50 shock from spares unlimited and thinks, as I do the postage is high
I can get it delivered for you for a lot less (i.e Free) let me know. (check free collection in person first
)
On the subject of springs I have a white spring (spring only) and blue anodised adjusters if anyone wants them. I bought them off e-bay in a box with a load of stuff I actually wanted, the spring doesn't have any markings that I recall.
Cheers

Hi Oli,
The only significant difference that I can see between the 01-03 linkages/dogbone and the 04 onwards ones is the width of the dogbone. There's 5mm difference (the 04 is narrower) and if you're fitting this to the Falco it will need to be packed out by 5mm to fit to the triangles and the frame. This could cause problems I suspect.
If you can get hold of an 01-03 dogbone you should be sorted, but the triangles/dogbone tend to get sold as an item, not independently.

I've just come across a picture comparing the 01-03 Mille triangle with the 04 onwards triangle:
(The 04 onwards one is on top)

I was looking for a thread to clarify what I remembered hearing about a number of reported cases of this with the 04 onwards parts:

Here is just one of the threads on the subject:

Given this problem, I would exercise great caution in using the later linkages in a configuration for which they were not designed.
