Thanks Dyzio. I think that a really good setupdyzio wrote:Ok, the mounting is made from two "L" brackets and a "T" bracket from B&Q.
One of the brackets was flattened and fits on top of the subframe. I've drilled 2 holes in it and bolted the "T" bracket to it. The second L bracket is attatched to the T one and holds the garmin mounting (M4-or3 bolt + some rubber grommets)
Doesn't look very nice, but hey, it's covered by plastic and does its job perfectly.

the proper bike ones wire in correctly to your battery
also, look for a zumo 550 - they have just been replaced with a new model and they come with the correct bits to use in the car....

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...
I've a Nuvi 360 - a nice small car one - I just knocked up a power supply for it which I wired into the bike's wiring - it (and the power feed I made for the heated grips that can't get left on) are contained within the mount I made for the Nuvi.DavShill wrote:I haven't got a sat nav but am thinking of buying one. don't want to spend circa £400 on a bike specific one cos I want to use it the car too.
Daft question probably...... but how do you replace the cigar lighter plug and wire it into the bike? or does it just run off it's own battery?
I've got long-term loan of a Zumo 550 and will be removing the mount for the Nuvi as the Zumo can do a lot more useful things

Hi Everyone
I bought myself the Zumo 660 (It was cheaper than any 550, that I could find!) Having seen Dyzio's rig, it got me thinking
.
As I was fitting the ram mount and the sat nav I decided to got to my local blacksmiths they cut the plate for me (in stainless steel) and charged me a whooping £3

(after looking at the brackets Dyzio used it would have cost at least £12 from Focus) Bargain!!
Riders view of the plate

Standard Screen riders view

Double Bubble riders view

Without Sat nav fitted

Cheers

Good job. If you have any problems with your zumo have a look here www.zumoforums.com
Lots of good info about all the zumo models.
Lots of good info about all the zumo models.
Thanks for the link I have book marked it (not that I expect it to go wrong, just yet)
I went out for a short ride after fitting it, and I have to say the position is perfect, (in my humble opinion
double bubble screen) it is just out of eyeline while concentrating on the road ahead and only a slight look down brings it in to full view.
I hardly looked at my clocks while out, the only time I felt i needed to was after I told the Zumo to take me home
, the speed was not displayed
on the screen, however as the clocks are not obstructed it was only a minor thing, I wouldn't be surprised if you can't change the display but as it didn't come with a full destruction manual I will have to trawl the forum above.
Doh! I just found out how to change it, very simple (like me)
Cheers

Just an update on the mounting, I changed back to the standard screen and the picture of the riders view is not quite right.
When I started the bike the dreaded default re-set to KMH
, trip back to zero, went for a ride and the sat nav blocks the view of the fuel light (arse) so you guessed it ? Ran out of fuel
two miles from home, my good lady
had to come and rescue me
.
