I'm hoping that someone may be able to help me source the indicator connector shown below ( I need 2 of them) I've aquired some very nice Oberon LED indicators and I'm in the process of looking at fitting them. Unfortunately as the wiring is exposed at the back of the nose fairing I'm loathed to start cutting wires on the original indicators and splicing them to the original connectors. So..............I've tried Maplins etc... numerous breakers to see if I can buy a couple of these connectors from broken indicators etc... and searched on-line for ages with no joy what so ever.

So I'm hoping that someone here may know where I can source a couple of these connectors from, or have a couple lying around that they may be willing to sell me (fat chance I know) I cannot remember if these are the same connectors as used for the Falco, but I'm hoping so.

If anyone can assist or point me in the right direction I'd be grateful

Rich,

I'm positive there was a thread on AF1 flinging about when Nooj was doing the led rear lights where they sourced the aprilia connectors so it was a proper fit. Might be worth a search as I'm sure the supplier could do allsorts at the time. I'll have a quick butchers.

when i did mine i wandered to the local breakers and went through their old indicators and wiring looms to find the right connectors

i cut off what i needed and then used them to connect stuff - ie i made a double ended spliced together cable so the oem stuff was ok :)

( i soldered the joints, taped then heat shrinked)

I think it cost me a pint :)


Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

omg K1w1boy makes a suggestion to a tech query instead of grovelling a tech-veg-proof solution: these connectors are standard Aprilia ones aren't they? Go to the wrecker or ebay and cannibalise some? ... er, tah dah? :smt003

I got them from Farnell ordered over the internet.

Click on the tech info bit for a drawing, trust me it's the part you want and apart from scavenging I didn't find them anywhere else.

I always found them a right pain in the arse to get hold of, Farnell weren't selling them when I was doing my thang :smt013

Good news and bad news.............visited Farnells, waited, tried to discuss what I wanted and was finally asked if I wanted order something! (customer service is not their thing!!)

Anyway I can only imagine the design must have changed because although the part number Falcopops offered is definately for a Molex 2 way clip it unfortunately isn't the right one. And FYI they don't come complete (just the bare plastic housing---the small metal clips cost extra and you have to buy a 100 of them)

So for anyone (like Andy) who might have been thinking of ordering some............DON'T!

Anyway every cloud has a silver lining and whilst I waited for the clips I perused their bargain corner and walked away with a wall mounted Bilsdom ear plug dispenser complete with 400 pairs of ear plugs for a tenner! Happy days eh???, and do I look flash with it mounted on the garage wall next to the bike?

As for the connectors, I'm going to convert the indicator wiring over to use the Hitachi clip (as used on many Jap bikes) mainly beacause they are available,reliable and cheap.

Erm.... so what is wrong with bullet connectors then?

My bike has them and all the indies I have tried have had them and matched up so I've had no compatibility issues yet so I am just curious why you insist on twin block connectors.

On a serious note, personally speaking I wanted to use a quality block connector because the wiring is on show (being a naked bike) and I wanted to be able to put the bike back to std without cutting into the wiring.
Also (and again personally speaking) I have no luck with bullet connectors, they are normally damn poor quality never seem to crimp up properly and the wire pulls out of them instead of the bullet connector coming apart.

just a thought but are the connectors inside the actual indicators the same or are the led ones a sealed unit. I had same problem when i changed mine over just took the indicators apart and used same lead off original (replacements were not led ones though)

Fair enough.

I agree on the question of bullet connector quality where the aftermarket ones are concerned. Up to now I have only been able to get those horrible '3 sizes = 3 different colour brittle plastic insulator' type that never stay put. BUT..... I hope to soon have some so called 'Japanese type' connectors with the soft clear insulators and a proper pair of crimpers and am looking forward to much more success in this field.
