Royle Family Christmas "special"

#1 Post by IsleFalco » Fri Dec 26, 2008 11:11 am

Is it only me (and a further example of my grumpy old man status) or did anyone else think this piece of television was garbage? I like the Royle Family but this seemed to be far removed from the usual standard. It could have made this script into a cartoon version. It lacked any kind of sublety; the gags were obvious and just kept on coming and the characters all seemed to make cameo appearances designed to make themselves look either selfish, stupid or ridiculous.

I have always thought that the appeal of this show was the fact that, although the characters in it are selfish, stupid or ridiculous, they have a believability and you warmed to them. In my opinion they should now leave this series to rest, they have run out of ideas with it and have settled into producing one-off specials which just take the same old jokes and not just regurgitate them, but spew them up.

Thank God its only TV and I could get out of my chair and go do something else.

I gave up watching it a long time ago!

Mind you, seemed to me that almost all the Christmas programmes this year were either repeats or rubbish - or repeats of rubbish!

Yep the best bit of TV so far ... but who else noticed they've traded in the bike and sidecar for a van

But it's an A35! Use to have one of those - car not van though.

I likes W&G - 'twas all new to me 'cos I don't watch telly much, but we had visitationers so I had to join 'em in the front-room-telly-place instead of hiding in the back room
