funnily enough, I went into my local town centre today, and as i burbled through the town i was pltly surprised how many people just looked, nodded and smiled - as was said, not many around, look great, and right cans sound right

Can't speak for the Suzuki twin but after riding inline-4s for the past 12 years, there's no way I'll go back to them.

Give me the Falco anyday.

(Rode a friend's CBR1100XX super blackbird thing the other week. It's like riding a giant electric motor... No soul, no sound. Felt like a barge, too.)

I am on my second Falco and have only had a brief go on an SV. The SV was OK but the Falco just seems a bit better in every department. But like evryone else here, I am a little biased.

In terms of build quality and reliability, any bike can have its issues. Having covered around 20000 miles on my Aprilias I can tell you that I have no concerns at all about build quality. Japanese bike owners like to trot this stuff out, maybe to justify their choice to follow the crowd. Its Italian; therefore it must be a POS. Heard it many times. Aprilias are generally well put together and my Honda has more rusty fasteners after one winter than my old Falco or my futura had in three wintwers use. With the Falco, you might want to read up a bit on it to find out what you can do to make a good bike brilliant. It pays to be enthusiastic about it. I just bought a 2002 model with 3300 miles on the clock for £2500. It had race cans fitted but had never been derestricted. No wonder the previous owner did not ride it much as it was running in a strangled state with a exhaust/chip mismatch. Three evenings work and I have a derestricted bike with matching cans an chip, a 15t front sprocket and suspension that suits my weight and style. The bike is totally transformed.

My advice - choose what you want. If its the Falco, enthuse about it, learn about it, ride it and enjoy.

Well said mate. The Falco is the first Bike to really stir the soul, (though Ive had fun on all my previous bikes, cept maybe my first 595!), and I get a hard-on everytime I ride her, if you will excuse the double entendre stuff!

I'd recommend any bike that does what you want it to, whether its an Aprilia, Ducati, Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, BMW, or some really exotic make. Don't listen to anyone they will be biased.

...and you can't say fairer than that.

I'm sure the guys on the SV site love their bikes as much as we do, but while Falco riders talk about the soul and character of their bikes the SV riders talk about how shite Italian bikes are. Who would you rather be associated with?

For information: I've had my Falco for 3 years, 14000 miles, and absolutely no problems... and with a bit of polish it would look like new.

If you choose an SV then good luck and I wish you happy riding; I would find it hard to believe you wouldn't get more out of a Falco, but all the very best anyway.

I couldn't agree more

I got mine of e-bay last April the guy also had an SV100S in GSXR colours for sale.
I liked the look of both of them, placed a bid on the Falco and won (I was going to buy the SV as well but someone beat me to it) and for me it was the best thing I have ever done (apart from getting married of course dear!!).
The V-Twin did take a while to get used too after (25+yrs) IL4's but the Falco is AWESOME.
Like I said, I bought the bike in April and in July toured Scotland, 1700miles in 6 days, the bike never missed a beat and the build quality is far superior to my 1200 bandit.

Well if you like the entertainment I'd go the SV route, its always nice to have a private laugh.

I had an SV650 for 3 years and put 35000 miles on it, by the end the paint on the front fork legs was non existent, brake pins seased (even with regular service) very very furry bolts all over (used that scotoiler protection spray all the time)

but it was great fun bike, dunno about the thou test rode one before i got the 650, compared to the 650 i had the falco feels much better built all round, yes ive got a few problems with the falco, but so i did with the SV. i feel the falco is a much more stylish bike than the SV (i can say that ive had both

) i think the 650 is a great bike in the market its aimed at but when when you have bikes like the falco in the 1000cc range why would you choose and SV????

Thanks. It is good to be back. Its also nice to have a bike that I can settle back and look at as a keeper. I am taking my time over the mods, just the esential bits first. By luck or skill, not sure which, I seem to have got a reasonable set up with the OE shock. It will be replaced at some point, but in the meantime, it will do.
