Hey, Pete, Lookie here at what I found on evilbay:
Aprilia edwards mille stainless oil tank
Spotted it last night
Checked it throughout the day
Just before I left work - 1 hr to go - no bids
Got home ........ completely forgot to bid on the thing
Think it must be because when I got home I found the Mrs and another bloke together on the settee looking at pictures together ......
(We had the old chap from down the road round for tea - he'd brought his wartime photos with him to show us. He's actually the dad of one of the Mrs friends)
Anyway, back to the oil tank, never mind, didn't fancy paying what it went for.

btw did i mention i was thinking of CF bellypan?
on a serious note - our poland potential trip - camping or bed and breakfast?
(am tight so am thinking camping.....)
may have another chap to join in
Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Yeah camping is fine - can always hit the odd B&B if weather is crap or we just need a break.
BTW any idea of when we might be going?

i have yet to broach the subject with the domestic supervisor.....
(sort of thinking end of june but.... very very tentative)
Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Guess you're interested in the Poland trip rather than my inability to remember to bid on ebay.
Pete mentioned a while back that he was thinking of ambling over to Poland (as you do) and asked if anyone else was interested. I've been hoping to do a bit of a European trip for a while so said I was interested.
That's about as far as we've got with it so far.
Looks like next summer - and Auschwitz is on the itinerary.
Not sure how long Pete is wanting to make the journey but I'd love to take in some of Italy, the Stelvio pass, the route Napoleon - but who knows - early days of planning.
You up for this too? maybe?

well, I offered val - the wife, the chance of going out on a tour of europe in the car with our 17 month old son, while i rode the falco
would you believe she told me to get stuffed? (her words were not that polite but....)
but, she did tell me to go on my own....
I am thinking of just going up via the chunnel, through holland, germany etc and back - I made it about 2500 miles in total, and that is by varying the there and back bit.
am very open to thoughts etc, though I will be honest and say that I will want to camp - as I am very skint!
Friend of mine, who is cylindrically challenged on a blackbird, may want to come along as well - he is the guy who put me onto the radio btw.... (his has just arrived and he is very very pleased with the performance and range)
I would not be able to leave till 20th june at the earliest as that is monsters birthday

Some feedback from go modem go.
(I never mentioned anything about visiting tracks though)
With foreigners, they don't really have a legal hand on impounding bikes with non-approved exhausts. But they can fine you, which happens to Dutch and Belgian bikers overdoing it.
To be honest, in 22 years riding, I only ever got stopped once - in a known biker hotspot. And they let me go, despite my burned-out Leo's being way too loud (it had EC number and baffles). However, the squids with race-replica ricers on open Yosihimuras got impounded on the spot...
Hence, I wouldn't provoke around known bike-policed areas like the Nürburgring. Better have at least a BS approved or ECE can (and take the baffles with you). Btw, you won't be able to run fully open race pipes on the 'Ring or even other racecourses anyway- the Ring Nordschleife is a public toll road, and bikes / cars must be legal according to German (EU) rules - nothing above 100dB will get on there!
Btw, bikes can't be flashed and fined by automated Gatsos (constitutional obligation to identify rider's face) - in that sense it's much better than the UK...
Somehow, I feel much more free here as a biker than I ever did in the UK - no general speed limit on dual lane highways (not only Autobahn!), and no risk of being Gatso'd on any speed limited B-road or in-town
Lane splitting isn't as tolerated as it is in France or UK. Main problem are the cagers - Krauts are far less tolerant, with a high proportion of righteous traffic Nazis amongst them. You will have BMW's and Mercs chasing you on the Autobahn at 250km/h if you hurt their pride by passing them on the inside lane, and believe me - some of them are faster in the long run (on a free stretch, a car rider can do hours of top speed, I found that a little tiring on a bike!))
I wouldn't worry too much. Again, the rules are tight, but policing isn't as frequent as in the UK - there are hotspots (like Eiffel area), and regional differences (mountainous riding areas near big cities are less tolerant, the open countryside? No worries!).
As an "island ape", you can always claim the "Two World Wars - One World Cup" hooligan argument, that'll get you off scot-free with anything

Never had any problems when I lived in the fatherland (riding an SV with race can at the time), from my experience the Polizei are are very similar to a lot of British coppers in that they will generally leave alone for such minor infringements as long as you are riding sensibly.
As a side note, quite an experience to ride try riding flat out on the Autobahn, scare yourself shitless and still find some bloke in a beemer sat right up your chuff flashing his headlights at you to get out of the way (as is slotting in between two cars at 140mph to let the bugger past)
Racing is life - anything before or after is just waiting.
