Strewth!

It must be an optical illusion but that welded on bit looks as long as the actual stand. Do you have to give parked cars a wide berth?

maybe it helps them to concentrate while filtering?

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Yeah, I know it looks like total crap. My first impression of it was not favorable either. But it tucks away quite nicely, is easy to find with your heel... and the bike leans at a nice angle.

Tomorrow I'll try to snap a pic of it while it is up, so you can see.

Post a pic of the bike from either front or back as well - do you have the Perky's tilter? Part of the problem with the standard stand isn't just the angle of tilt, but also the "footprint" - because the stand is short, the CoG of the bike is not far off over where the stand meets the ground - the different stands adjust the angle of tilt, but also sits out further increasing the footprint

My GSXR stand used to hit the exhaust spring as well. I tapped an M4 hole in the stand where it stops against the mounting bracket and put a stainles button head screw in. That way I could put a few washers under it for a bit of adjustability to get the right clearance from the exhaust.

I also moved the toe bar down, so it sits under the peg rather than the gear lever when the stand is up, and moved the spring mount up to take the shorter Falco springs (the GSXR springs that came with the stand were all manky and horrible looking).

What exhaust on the sidestand side? :smt017

(BTW even when I had one, my Gixer stand didn't foul it)

Thanks for all the replies, it's certainly helped me decide what I'm going to do - which is go and lie down in a darkened room for a while...

Seriously, I'm going to do a proper job on the new GSXR stand I've acquired. I'm not going down the mix & match route again. So it's off to find an engineering firm that will do what I want and do it properly.

In the meantime I'm going to follow Nooj's suggestion with regard to exhaust spring clearance. The reason it fouls in the first place is because the stand is a cut and shut of the GSXR stand and the Falco top mount and when the two were welded together they weren't correctly aligned.

Which is one of the reasons I'm not going down that route again...

It really shouldn't be the big deal your fabricaters are making it out to be, most of mine I did myself with a few hand tools, the only stuff I got someone else to do was a bit of reaming, tapping and welding that I didn't have big enough kit for or enough room in the kitchen to do myself.

To be honest, that's how I viewed it, but the people I spoke to were giving it the sharp intake of breath and sucking their gums routine. I'll do as much as I can of it myself and just farm out the stuff I can't do, like the welding.

I have a Plan, but I'm keeping ity to myself at the moment. But I do intend to take pics as I go along.

It's the V-twin thing. There's just something about it that inline-4s don't have at all, and V-4s don't have enough of.

Ok, here are some more pics. One from behind with the bike on the stand (although it didn't come out great), and two with the stand up. I don't know if the leg on everyone's tucks away so far under the exaust or what. But anyway, like I said, it works fine, even on gravel and iffy surfaces, the bike feels pretty secure on the stand.
