Late 60s, I was off bikes for 2 or 3 years, couldn't really pull much on a bike in t
he late 60s, so bought this "babe magnet",( well best I could afford). Triumph Herald convertible with a tuned 1250 Spitfire motor. There is a bit of bike in it, the quick release alloy racing filler cap came off the fibre glass race tank on my old Norton "Dunstall" 650SS when I swapped it for an alloy tank. The mixture of the trendy original "Mauve" paintwork, white hood and grey primer also worked quite well.

It was a bit of a Mod period for me too I suppose so the long hair went AWOL for a while as well.

I notice that you have the rubber toggles lower down from the bonnet release chrome thingy, rotted away no doubt

I will try and find some photo's of my turbo'd Mk2 Spitfire for you to have a laugh at.

No the original bonnet fasteners were fine Gio, it was just that they kept working open, the toggles kept it secure and were "cool" at the time. The engine was actually the original Herald unit with a modified and gassflowed Spitfire head with bigger SU carbs, twin 1 1/2" SUs I think, plus it had an original Triumph stage 2 Le Mans camshaft, as fitted to the works Le Mans Mk 1 Spitfires that won their class in the 24 hr race around 63 or 64 I think.These cars were fitted with hard tops and looked just like the later GT6s.
It was effectively a full race cam and unfortunately caused the plugs to oil up in heavy traffic, quick in it's time though.
The main thing that rotted was the chassis rails, it was a continuous cycle replacing one every few months!
The other big pain was the nylon front suspension bushes that wore out nearly as often.
It had an SAH negative camber kit at the rear so that was actually OK.

They were cool indeed! That bonnet that hinged forward was a brilliant design too, you could unbolt the hinges and take the whole front end off to work on the engine!

We had a green and white hardtop coupé, they were fairly uncommon I think, we never saw another anyway. Triumph Herald owners started the fashion of waving to each other!

That car had the sweetest gearchange! (and rotten chassis outriggers of course)

Rebuilt the engine twice before I got fed up with it when it seized the third time.

Funny that BG, I had a hard top off the coupe, that I used in winter. Seem to remember it fitted straight on, but had to fit a polished alloy plate to cover the aperture for the hood, otherwise worked fine. On the waving bit, I reckon that was started by drivers of Mk1 Ausitin Healey "Frogeye" Sprites, had one of them as well, and really loved that. Glorious 3.5 inch crossply tyres, sideways absolutely everywhere at zero speed and totally controllable, MAGIC, taught me all about opposite lock!

Ford Capris (without the X pack) used to be quite interesting...

Especially the 3.0 litre.... I loved mine!

This is gettin a bit silly, I had a tuned 1970 3 litre GT XLR, which I used on the road and as a rally car, loved that as well. Sounded awsome with a big bore straight through twin exhaust, no front boxes, just two Jensen Interceptor back mufflers, bit like race cans that Nooj slash cut the ends off with his hacksaw, sounded like Mustang.
It was a bit hairy on downhill rally sections if you lifted off, but would take out RS1600s on uphill sections. Learned how to paint black lines down the road with that animal, and opposite locking got a lot harder and faster!
