Do I want a Mille?

#1 Post by Kenif » Wed Sep 10, 2008 8:54 pm

Still got my Falco, still love my Falco.

Current bike for work is a ZX6R. Don't love it any more (ok, as other half reminds me, I didn't actually love it, just quite liked it 'cos it was new). Problem is, it's an IL4 and boring. Having had an SV650 and Firestorm, I now want another V twin to use for work. Needs to be reliable but not get to the stage where I want to replace it in six months (oops, reminder attached- again)!
Any advice on whether a Mille is a good idea? Looking at cheap, don't mind battered (within reason). What should I be looking out for? Any major problems/recalls etc (other than shite back brake and stupid side stand)?

The other alternative is a C90.... :smt003

Hack?

#6 Post by Kenif » Wed Sep 10, 2008 10:23 pm

Sweet!
It would be a shame but yes, that's just what I need for my new commuter....

(Do I get thrown out of the Aprilia club for thinking this?)

I just love the thinking.

.... Got a Falco ......

..... need a commuter ......

Mr ordinary motorcyclist draws up list of C90, a choice of scooters, CB500, Bandit, Fazer ......

.... but Mr Falco rider is a breed apart

.... ideal commuter ....... Mille :smt003

(got to put these inferior Aprilia models in their place)

Nice bike but my wrists wouldn't take it long for commuting.
Alternative :smt017
Record number of FOUR Futuras in MCN this week.
One of them might be worth a punt, as they often come with luggage that might come in handy.
or possibly an SV650 if you want something cheap.

Bollox IL4's are not boring, its how most people ride them that makes them boring, much as I like all engines on bikes (excuse me Hardley Ablesons aren't bikes)v twins must be the easiest thing on 2 wheels to ride.

I think boring is probably a bit too strong a word, they just don't have the character or low down torque of the Falco.
Still have my old CBR1000, which is probably nearer to boring than most in some eyes, but I still love the old tank.
Like Kenif, my Falco will stay as long as I am still riding, but the CBR will probably get swapped for a Blackbird in the next six months, so I can use that more in winter, (Gio will tell you they ain't boring). I've ridden lots of IL4s, most recently a new R6, and you wouldn't call that boring, bloody mental when you want to be, hard work when you don't!
But never boring.

Yeah, I know the 100+ overtakes with the front wheel skimming lightly across the tarmac (with some effort) is fast, but the way the power is delivered just feels so dull. Each to their own but, I would rather travel to work using two gears that made me smile than spend the whole journey fucking around through the gearbox to deliver such a 'smooth' ride.

Or, as my other half put it, I want another twin "'cos you're just a lazy cnut" when it comes to changing gear! :smt008

Hmmm, considered the Futura yesterday (had an SV before so fancy something different) but never met anyone who had one. Any feedback from here?

I've never ridden one, we did have a member on here FalcoFutura, who had both and loved em both.
Certainly I would consider one in stead of buying a older Blackbird as a second bike, if I found a nice one. Would be nice for winter, long trips and occasional commuting. As mentioned before most come with Aprilia luggage, which would come in handy.
Used to always get tested against a VFR800, another bike I like, and you know which always came first. But I wouldn't be thinking the same way, let's face it, it's an Aprilia V twin with character and is only slightly detuned by a few bhp from the Falco state of tune. Finally they look good and are even less common than the Falco, so I could be tempted.
Then again, might be too much like the Falco. :smt017
But if you fancy another V twin Kenif ???????

Twins?

Will have another (closer) look at the Futura then. 'Course, none of this would be a problem if I hadn't got shot of my other Falco just a short while ago.... :smt012
